SOLD! The Claquato Church officially has a new owner. On Tuesday, the Lewis County Commissioners formally approved selling the historic landmark to the Claquato Cemetery Board for $5,000. The board says they plan to restore the church into becoming an educational and historical tourism draw. Built in 1858, the Claquato Church is the oldest standing church structure in all of Washington state. The property was owned by Lewis County for decades before Tuesday’s transaction.

FYI: If you live in unincorporated Thurston County, the burn ban is lifted. But before igniting that pile of yard debris, you’re required to obtain a burn permit through the Olympic Region Clean Air Agency. As for Lewis County, slash pile burning remains illegal through Wednesday, October 15th.
