FYI: Construction of the United Learning Center along Pearl Street is expected to be completed in November, and the facility could open as early as January, according to an update from the City of Centralia. Eventually, the United Learning Center will include a tuition-free preschool operated by Bezos Academy, the Discover! Children’s Museum, a Boys & Girls Club, as well as other youth and family programs.

So, what do you think of this new statue? It’ll be donated to Lintott/Alexander Park in Chehalis, courtesy of Mike and Sue Austin, and Bob and Jackie Spahr. The statue is called “Jumbo Tree Adventure,” created by Art of Bronze, the same sculpting company that created other park statues for the City of Chehalis. According to city documents, it could take 8 to 10 weeks before the statue is finally installed at Lintott/Alexander Park.

TRAVEL ADVISORY: Today, crews will begin a weeks-long repaving project on I-5 in Lewis County. According to WSDOT, the roadwork will occur between Centralia and the Napavine area, mileposts 81 and 70, in both directions of the freeway. Within the next several weeks, WSDOT encourages you to prepare for temporary ramp closures and lane reductions related to the project, which is tentatively scheduled to wrap up this fall. Most of the work will take place during the overnight hours, say officials.

TRAVEL ADVISORY: All is well now, according to traffic cameras… But this weekend is Labor Day weekend, which is considered to be one of the busiest travel periods of the year on Washington’s roadways, according to WSDOT. Historically, Fridays and Mondays over the holiday weekend have experienced traffic congestion on I-5 through Centralia and Chehalis, where the freeway narrows from three lanes to two lanes. If possible, local motorists are encouraged to avoid the freeway when traveling between the twin cities.
