Ateneo Student: When he entered show business, he wasn't just a pretty face; he was a college student at the prestigious Ateneo de Manila University, studying management.
Camp Classic Romance: He was famously linked romantically with his co-star Dina Bonnevie, with whom he starred in the 1980 camp classic Temptation Island.

A Tragic Birthday: He died on the night of his 22nd birthday on December 30, 1981, at his home in Bel-Air, Makati.
The Official Story: Mainstream media at the time reported his death as a su***de, a narrative that has not been officially or authoritatively contradicted. A su***de note was reportedly taken by the National Bureau of Investigation.
Rampant Rumors: Immediately following his death, rumors spread that he had been murdered. Suspicion fell on the family of his ex-girlfriend, Katrina Ponce Enrile, daughter of then-Minister of Defense Juan Ponce Enrile (a major figure in the Marcos regime).
The Fabricated Rumor: Decades later, Juan Ponce Enrile wrote in his memoir that the rumors implicating his son, Jack Enrile, were a "pure fabrication" devised by Fabian Ver (another powerful figure in the regime) to discredit him. According to Enrile's account, Alfie and Katrina had broken up that day, leading to a tragic end.
Posthumous Releases: Because he was so active, several of his films were released after his death, including Throw Away Child, Dormitoryo, Diosa, and The Diary of Cristina Gaston.
