Today marks the first day of Pride Month, and while you won’t see our page flip over like a lite-brite meets a magic unicorn…
I’m still thankful.
For me, Pride is personal.
As a published author, a business owner, and a member of the LGBTQ+ community, I never want to forget what Pride really means.
It is not a marketing tactic.
It is not just a parade.
It is not about labels, stereotypes, or what other people try to reduce it to.
Pride is a reminder.
A reminder that people before us fought, marched, cried, lost jobs, lost families, lost safety, and sometimes lost their lives so that future generations could have access to the same basic human rights as everyone else.
Today, I honor the ones who changed the world. The brave voices, the quiet fighters, the people at Stonewall, the activists, the artists, the authors, the everyday humans who refused to disappear.
To the people who came before us, thank you.
Thank you for your courage.
Thank you for your heartbreak.
Thank you for carrying pain so some of us would not have to carry as much of it.
To the allies, the momma bears, the friends, the families, the teachers, the business owners, and the people who make others feel safe, thank you.
Your support matters more than you know.
And to the next generation, hear this clearly:
A color does not define you.
A flag does not limit you.
A label does not decide your future.
You are not too much.
You are not broken.
You are not here by accident.
You are allowed to become anything.
Pride is about love.
Pride is about safety.
Pride is about remembering.
Pride is about making sure the next person has a little more freedom than the ones before them.
Happy Pride Month. 🌈
