Creating immersive storytelling experiences through emerging technologies.

The Reese Innovation Lab works to create and share novel and immersive storytelling experiences that engage audiences by leveraging new technologies such as artificial intelligence, virtual and augmented reality with unique, research-based perspectives. Students, faculty, and staff use new technologies and human-centered design concept solve challenging problems for media companies. Projects are r

ooted in scientific and consumer/audience research and leverage collaborations with subject-matter experts across the university such as the Hussman School of Journalism and Media, School of Medicine, and the Computer Science Department as well as multiple industries leaders like Time Magazine and The Washington Post as well as local journalism publishers.

Between the legendary Chris Matthews and inspirational Kahn Media, we’ve had some exciting guests in the Lab recently!

We always love getting to show off our projects, especially when our visitors make up such a good audience. We got to have some fun, thought-provoking conversations thanks to our guests’ insightful questions!

We are very grateful to be able to host such cool people at the Reese Lab, and we hope to see them all again soon!

We've been hard at work on some cool virtual reality projects! VR can be utilized in so many fascinating ways to create positive change, and we love exploring those possibilities. It takes a lot of creating, editing, and testing to ensure these experiences have the desired impact, but we love every minute (especially when cows are involved😉)!

UX Design Fellow Maddie Cabilin had primarily web and mobile design experience before this summer. When she came to the Lab, she had to adapt her thinking to tackle the unique design challenges presented in VR. Earlier this week, we had a group of master's students from UNC's Master of Digital Communications (MADC) program come by the Lab for a tour. They got to see some of our ongoing projects, talk about the future of digital communications and AI, and meet Loomo! We always love having visitors, and we wish the MADC students luck as their semester begins!
