She wasn't holding a pose. She wasn't waiting for the shutter. She was just there.

Present in her own laugh, in her own body, in a moment that had nothing to do with being photographed.

That's the difference between an image you tolerate and one you actually love. Because it’s you telling your story.

This may seem counterintuitive, but it’s true.

What relaxes your body in front of a camera isn't the photographer’s warmth.

It's their confidence.

I’ve felt this first-hand.

When I stepped in front of my mentor’s camera, I could feel her confidence, her certainty, in what she was guiding me through.

She was confident in everything she was creating for me, certain in her ability to get the results we had discussed.

And my body knew it. My shoulders relaxed, and I was present.

That trust is what separates an image where you look like yourself from one where you look like you're trying to be what someone else told you to be.

You can't perform your way into a real photograph. The conditions have to be created.

That's what I work to build.

Before the session, during the design consultation, and in every moment of the day itself.

Not manufactured warmth. Genuine certainty.
