Welcome to Heel Reads and Hot Tags! I’m Brenda—wife, boy mom, and proud Raleigh native. I’m obsessed with all things books and WWE (especially the chaos and brilliance of pro wrestling). You’ll catch me devouring everything from contemporary romance and thrillers to dark romance and fantasy—if it keeps me hooked, I’m in! I’m also a Disney fanatic, travel ju**ie, off-roading enthusiast, concert-goe

Meeting this weekend honestly meant more to me than I expected. 🥰

I already adored her books, especially Good Spirits and First Time Caller. But hearing her speak made me love her work even more. She was hilarious, real, and so incredibly relatable. But the moment that truly stayed with me was when she talked about her struggles with postpartum. As a mom who went through that too, it hit me right in the heart. Sometimes all you want during that season is to know that you’re okay… that you’re not alone. And those feelings still aren’t talked about or validated nearly enough.

When I got the chance to talk to her, she smiled and apologized for being “seven glasses deep,” and I told her absolutely no apologies..she deserved every single one. I was also one of the last few readers in line to finally get to meet her, so it had been an evening. We ended up sharing a small moment about postpartum struggles, and then she looked at me and said, “You’re a great momma.”

I wanted to cry right there. 🥹

Because sometimes the words you didn’t realize you needed come from the most unexpected places. And sometimes the people who write the stories we love are also the ones reminding us that we’re doing better than we think.

Forever a fan of B.K. Borison 🩵

February might be the shortest month, but it was definitely full in the best way. ✨

From celebrating birthday, to showing up for ’s release day, February was packed with so many moments that reminded me why I love being part of this community. Between book clubs, author signing events, craft nights, making candles and book charms, and getting to spend time with so many of my book besties… my heart (and my calendar) was very full. 📚🕯️✨

I’m really grateful for the friendships, creativity, and support that come with this bookish space. It’s never just about the books…it’s about the people you meet along the way.

What was a highlight from your February?

Valentine’s Day weekend in DC with Nate ❤️

No itinerary. No strict plans. Just us and a show that night to see Alan Walker.

We grabbed scooters, rode into downtown, let the city lead us, and stopped for the most fabulous and fresh brunch at (10/10). Then we wandered through the National Museum of the American Indian, and I honestly loved every second of it - powerful, grounding, and beautifully curated.

Sometimes the best memories come from not overplanning… just exploring, eating good food, and soaking it all in together. ✨

DC, you were such a vibe. Stay tune for Part 2 ❤️

Still working on my Lao…how do you say “adventures” or is there a word for “crab rangoon” in Lao.

This is also my problem: if I don’t know the word, I just say it in English with a very aggressive Lao accent and hope for the best. So political incorrect of me. 🤣

I need to sound less broken. lol

Oh here’s my Starbucks order, I don’t think I can translate it yet. Lol

Let me know if you want the translation. Thanks for following along on embarrassing myself 😃

I had so much fun last night making my own hand-poured scented coconut soy candle and a book charm at for their event. I also got to create a book charm with .andfern, and honestly, picking out the charms was half the fun. ❤️🕯️

I named my candle Pippa because I’m very clearly in my Tell Me Lies era. And yes, I also had to grab a few romantasy books because… discounts. Obviously. How could I not?

If you’re looking for fun bookish events and a community to connect with, I can’t recommend Brightside enough.

I hope to see you at the next event!
