Though Pride month has come and gone, the fight for LGBTQ+ rights is very much still ongoing. Though great strides have been made in recent years, there is still a long way to go before full equality is achieved. The transgender community in particular, faces immense challenges, from discrimination in housing and employment to a lack of access to healthcare. Furthermore, transphobic violence is all too common, with many trans people being targeted simply for living their truth. Though the road to full equality may be long, we must continue to fight for the rights of all LGBTQ+ people. We must stand up to hate and bigotry in all its forms, and create a world where everyone can live freely and openly. We will keep fighting for our rights, and we will keep fighting for a world that is more inclusive for all. Pride month may be over, but our pride is everlasting.

The June issue of Kai magazine is now live, and we're so excited to share it with you! This issue celebrates Juneteenth as well as Pride month. We had the honor of collaborating with Queen Atterberry of Lady In White Productions on a fun-filled photoshoot at Old Bethel United Methodist Church (https://www.oldbethelumc.org/).

Our issue is also filled with beautiful images celebrating our LGBTQ+ community and information regarding the updated progressive flag. We personally want to thank John Summers as well as everyone that had a hand in making this issue a success. We hope you enjoy this issue!. Thank you!!

starts today. We decided for our pride photo shoot for this year we would recreate the color scheme of the Progress Pride Flag, designed by Daniel Quasar. This flag explicitly includes Black, Brown & Trans colours. Without those groups, we wouldn’t have Pride today.

The Portland-based designer felt that the six-striped LGBT flag should be visually separated from the newer stripes due to their difference in meaning, as well as to "shift focus and emphasis to what is important in our current community climate."
He says the main section of the flag incorporates the six-stripe flag so as to not take away from the initial meaning, while the additional elements form an arrow shape that points to the right, to represent "forward movement". They are placed along the left edge of the flag to state that "progress still needs to be made."

The inclusion of the additional stripes means placing emphasis on voices that need to be heard, “The flag was my way of saying we as a community need to step back and listen.” Daniel Quasar

Have you read story in our May Issue of Kai Magazine?

In the article, she talks about the importance of unconditional love and self-worth. She also talks about the importance of listening to your kids and how important it is for them to feel heard. These are both great lessons we can learn from. Casey's story is an inspiration to us all, and we are so grateful she was able to share it with us. Thank you, Casey.
