Treylin Couch singlehandedly represented the Charleston High School boys’ track team at the Illinois High School Association Boys State Track & Field Championships at O'Brien Field for the third consecutive year, this time as both a jumper and a sprinter.

In previous years, Couch primarily competed in the triple jump and didn’t run in any open races. However, new head track and field head coach Dre Gaston saw Couch’s potential to become a more versatile athlete.

“My main focus was to get him to become a world-class sprinter,” Gaston said. “I wanted to prove to him how fast he really is because in the past he was told he was not fast enough.”
