⛺️🏝️🛶 Many years ago, my husband wanted to kayak to an undeveloped island on the coast of SC to go camping, solo. I was very worried, dramatically worried, that something might happen to him and came up with a whole list of things that could go wrong. (Keep in mind that he was going to be fewer than 25 miles from home.) When I presented him with my reasons why it wasn’t safe and he shouldn’t go, he laughed. For an hour.
📋 My List:
🐍Rattlesnake bite
🔥Campfire goes astray
🦪Kayak hits an oyster bed
🌪️Tornado
🦈Sharks
🚤Drug runners using the island as a base
🏴☠️Pirates
🌊Tsunami
Ever since that day, when I have over reacted
to something or didn’t want the kids to do something because it might not be safe, my husband has looked at me and said “Tsunami.”
In my defense though, unexpected events happen in life, even when you are vacation, even tsunamis—just not *usually* in coastal South Carolina. 😀
🚢 While I encourage my clients to have travel protection on every trip, I typically cite lost baggage, illness or injury, and hurricanes. This is a completely different scenario— cruise ships departing early due to a tsunami warning and leaving passengers stranded. Obviously, they returned to the port to pick them up, but still. Obviously, travel insurance can’t eliminate the stress of that situation, but it can provide ease of mind knowing that the unexpected expenses won’t break the bank.
Yes. This is a rare situation. Absolutely! But there are so many rare situations that can happen, that might happen, that it is wise to be prepared. Even for a tsunami.
