Be vigilant of this heat. Water intake is NOT enough to keep you hydrated if you are doing strenuous activities in the heat.
Replace your electrolytes!

In this case, the water did not provide all that was needed, which in return caused a heat stroke. Even being healthy, active and taking in fluids, it did not prevent the outcome. The heat will get you before you even know it. You can go from fine to unable to function with very little notice.

Someone that hasn't received acknowledgement for Sundays successful track at the state park is Cpl Brandon Lyons.

Huge shout out to Cpl Lyons for being able to stay up to the fast-paced speed K9 Hurley tracks once she has located the scent. She is a force to be reckon with when she goes into work mode. Cpl Lyons was there for assistance and protection for the K9 team the entire time.

I want to thank my family, community, friends, Heartland EMS, Norton Clark Hospital, and all the Officers that have sent prayers, well wishes and checked in on me. Those friends offering to sneak food in to me at the hospital, you are a special kind of people! 🙌🤣 💓

Just a quick update.
A lot of people are calling, texting and messaging us both.

The 2 patients! 💓

K9 Hurley is doing good today. She rested well overnight and ate a small breakfast this morning. She is resting at home with her 4 legged siblings and big human brother. She deserves all the praise she received yesterday because the heat was unreal and she never gave up on her track.🐾

Sgt Clark is still in the hospital unfortunately. Hoping to get some answers today. Right now the struggle is real because he is on water only diet and if anyone knows Adam, knows he loves his food.

Clark County Sheriff’s Office Responds to Mental Health Emergency at Charlestown State Park

CHARLESTOWN, IN – At approximately 10:10 AM this morning, the Clark County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to Charlestown State Park in response to a report of a person in a mental health crisis threatening self-harm.

Deputies from the Sheriff’s Office arrived on the scene and initiated a search for the individual using a UTV, a drone, and our Air Unit, in coordination with the Charlestown Police Department, Clark County Emergency Management Agency (EMA), Indiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR), and Heartland EMS.

At approximately 11:45 AM, Charlestown Police Sergeant Adam Clark and his K-9 partner, Hurley, successfully located the individual. The subject was safely taken into custody and transported for treatment.

Following the incident, one Clark County Sheriff’s Deputy and one Charlestown Police Officer were transported for medical treatment, as well, due to dehydration.

Sheriff Scottie Maples would like to extend his sincere gratitude to all responding agencies for their professionalism and teamwork. He offers special recognition to Sergeant Clark and K-9 Hurley for their vital role in locating the individual and helping preserve life during this critical incident.

“Our community is fortunate to have such dedicated and skilled first responders,” said Sheriff Maples. “This situation could have ended much differently, and I am proud of the cooperative effort that led to a safe resolution. Big thanks go to Sgt Clark with Charlestown PD and our Ofc. Vissing and all the officers who helped. Working together, works.”

CHPD executed a search warrant at a residence in the 200 block of High Street Thursday evening after Officer Jorge Hernandez's investigation led him to secure probable cause of illegal drug activity.

CHPD officers seized approximately twenty items of evidence supporting drug-related charges, including two fi****ms.

Officer Hernandez's investigation has resulted in the arrest of Steve A. Buchanan, 60, of Charlestown, who has been preliminarily charged with dealing in methamphetamine, a Level 4 felony; possession of methamphetamine, a Level 5 felony; possession of a narcotic drug, a Level 6 felony; possession of a legend drug; possession of ma*****na; possession of paraphernalia; and maintaining a common nuisance.

All subjects or suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Today was spa day for Hurley and her sister Josey Lynn! 🛁

Hurley needs to be fresh and pretty to clock back in on Friday from her month long vacation. K9 Hurley will be back on day shift on our city streets, after a year of nights. She will certainly miss Jorge and Matt from her 3rd shift, calling her out to assist them in finding dope. 💪
However, the students at Charlestown schools will get frequent visits from K9 Hurley once again. 🐾
She sure has missed those kids! ♥️
