Snapshots from today's awards ceremony. πŸ†
K9 Divisions are extremely beneficial to Law Enforcement Agencies.
People tend to think of apprehension dogs when they think of a police K9.

However, some K9's such as Hurley, search for lost adults/children. To have a tool that can help in such an emergency, is a lot of work and not cheap.
If you or your company ever want to donate to Charlestown Police K9 Division to help us feed them, train and provide them with tools needed to be successful in our community, please reach out to Sgt Clark at CHPD and he can help you do that. It would be a tax deductible donation. πŸΎπŸ–€πŸ’™πŸΎ

During this morning's City of Charlestown, Indiana Board of Works meeting, Chief Eric Kruse presented four CHPD Officers for the Department's Life Saving Award. All four were approved and recognized by Mayor Hodges and the Board of Works.

Officer Dave Schoengart (left) received a Department Life Saving Award for life saving measures he successfully administered while off duty, when coming upon a motorcycle crash victim with a severed leg in May of this year.

Cpl. Brandon Lyons, Sgt. Adam Clark and his K9 partner Hurley (flanking Chief Kruse from left to right) received a Department Life Saving Award for successfully assisting the CCSO with investigating, tracking, locating, and rending aid to an adult male suffering from a mental health issue in the Charlestown State Park woods last month. The incident occurred during extreme heat, resulting in all three being treated for heat exhaustion in various degrees, afterward.

"I’m extremely proud of the work these officers put in daily. Their actions resulted in positive impacts for the people involved in these incidents and those around them. A lot of times these acts go unnoticed but Officers all around our area continue to do great work during every shift", commented Chief Kruse.

Bail was posted today!!! πŸ‘πŸ‘

Be vigilant of this heat. Water intake is NOT enough to keep you hydrated if you are doing strenuous activities in the heat.
Replace your electrolytes!

In this case, the water did not provide all that was needed, which in return caused a heat stroke. Even being healthy, active and taking in fluids, it did not prevent the outcome. The heat will get you before you even know it. You can go from fine to unable to function with very little notice.

Someone that hasn't received acknowledgement for Sundays successful track at the state park is Cpl Brandon Lyons.

Huge shout out to Cpl Lyons for being able to stay up to the fast-paced speed K9 Hurley tracks once she has located the scent. She is a force to be reckon with when she goes into work mode. Cpl Lyons was there for assistance and protection for the K9 team the entire time.

I want to thank my family, community, friends, Heartland EMS, Norton Clark Hospital, and all the Officers that have sent prayers, well wishes and checked in on me. Those friends offering to sneak food in to me at the hospital, you are a special kind of people! πŸ™ŒπŸ€£ πŸ’“

Just a quick update.
A lot of people are calling, texting and messaging us both.

The 2 patients! πŸ’“

K9 Hurley is doing good today. She rested well overnight and ate a small breakfast this morning. She is resting at home with her 4 legged siblings and big human brother. She deserves all the praise she received yesterday because the heat was unreal and she never gave up on her track.🐾

Sgt Clark is still in the hospital unfortunately. Hoping to get some answers today. Right now the struggle is real because he is on water only diet and if anyone knows Adam, knows he loves his food.

Thank you to everyone sending prayers and well wishes. Keep them coming!!
