Tonight at 7 p.m., longtime WPEG radio host "No Limit" Larry Mims will be inducted into the National Black Radio Hall of Fame at the Sonesta Hotel in Charlotte.

Mims, who has participated in 's high school football coverage for years, has been on the radio for nearly 30 years locally.

An East Meck and JC Smith graduate, Mims was recruited to the radio station as intern while he was still in college. In 2004, he began hosting a morning show and in 2019, he became heavily involved with blockloveclt.org that seeks to help meet the needs of the underserved.

Mims has also worked to help reduce crime in Charlotte.

And for the past three years, he's coached high school football in town. He was at Palisades for three seasons and coached under at West Charlotte in 2025. Mims is now at Independence under Patriots' head coach Robert Williams, who was defensive coordinator at West Charlotte last season.

Charlotte Latin’s Elijah Alexander is The Charlotte Observer’s high school football offensive player of the week.

In a 35-21 win over Providence on Sept. 11, Alexander had 12 tackles, 2.5 tackles for a loss, a sack and a forced fumble.

Mooresville's Tianna Chiriga is The Charlotte Observer high school athlete of the week.

Chiriga, a senior volleyball player committed to Livingstone, played in three matches last week.

She had 33 kills, a .310 hitting percentage plus eight aces, 26 digs and four blocks. She led her team to 3-0 shutout wins over South Iredell, Hickory Ridge and Lake Norman. Through 17 matches, Chiriga has 165 kills, 150 kills, 27 aces, 12 blocks and eight assists for the Blue Devils (11-6).
