Rwanda has confirmed it is in preliminary talks with Italy over a potential migrant transfer arrangement.

The discussions focus on receiving deported migrants from Europe, who would be sheltered and processed in Rwanda before being voluntarily returned to their home countries or resettled elsewhere.

Government spokesperson Yolande Makolo said no binding agreements have been signed yet.

The proposed model is similar to the Gashora transit center established in 2019 to house migrants evacuated from Libya.

The talks follow updated EU migration frameworks allowing member states to explore offshore return hubs outside EU borders.

This comes after the UK-Rwanda partnership was scrapped by British Prime Minister Keir Starmer.

In December 2022, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi inaugurated a brand new city along the Mediterranean coast. 🇪🇬

New Mansoura City is a completely planned, smart "fourth-generation" coastal city built from scratch on desert land 54 km north of the original Mansoura.

It was designed to ease the population density in the overcrowded Nile Delta without sacrificing precious agricultural land.

The first phase alone cost roughly 45 billion Egyptian pounds ($1.8 billion USD), introducing over 19,000 housing units, a 15 km waterfront promenade, New Mansoura University, and the Nile Delta's first major seawater desalination plant.

The city is designed to house over 1.5 million residents. 🇪🇬

Cape Verde might look like a tropical paradise, but it is one of Africa's most impressive economic success stories. 🇨🇻

A nation of just over 500,000 people that became only the second African country to graduate from UN Least Developed Country status to Middle-Income status in 2008, despite having almost no mineral wealth.

Services account for roughly 75% of GDP, driven by tourism, transport, and commerce. Personal remittances from the diaspora, which outnumbers the local population, regularly equal over 12% to 20% of GDP.

The currency is pegged to the Euro, protecting it from hyperinflation.

A Ugandan footballer has been killed after attackers hit him with paving stones in Kampala. SC Villa captain David Owori was ambushed near his home in Makindye on Tuesday night and died from his injuries at Case Clinic after resisting an attempt to steal his phone.

The 27-year-old led his club to their first league title in 20 years in 2024 and also represented the Uganda Cranes in AFCON qualifying matches.

His death has sparked tributes from FUFA, SC Villa, and Parliament, alongside renewed calls for action against violent crime in Kampala.

This is Lagos, Nigeria. 🇳🇬

If Lagos were an independent nation, its economy would rank as the 7th or 8th largest in Africa, outperforming full countries like Ghana, Kenya, and Ethiopia. Despite being Nigeria's smallest state by land area, it accounts for over 30% of the country's GDP and more than 50% of its non-oil industrial capacity.

Lagos is the tech capital of Africa, home to unicorns like Flutterwave, Paystack, and Interswitch. It generates over 70% of its revenue internally through local taxes and corporate fees, unlike most Nigerian states that rely on federal oil allocations.

The ports of Apapa, Tin Can Island, and Lekki process the majority of Nigeria's non-oil freight.

The Nigerian government has approved a new salary structure for the armed forces, effective September 1, 2026.

The increase covers approximately 250,000 personnel across the Army, Navy, and Air Force, raising the annual personnel wage bill from 660 billion naira to 924 billion naira.

The increase is tiered by rank. Junior enlisted personnel, from Private to Staff Sergeant, will receive an 80 percent increase.

Mid-level personnel, from Warrant Officer to Colonel, will get 50 percent. Senior officers, from Brigadier General to General, will receive 30 percent.

The move is seen as a major boost for the welfare of Nigerian troops.

A protected witness has told the Shanzu Law Courts that Shakahola pastor Paul Nthenge Mackenzie transformed into a snake and bit her husband.

The witness, identified only as "LA," testified that Mackenzie's head transformed first, followed by his body, during a visit to her homestead around 7:00 PM.

LA also testified that Mackenzie controlled her family through prison phone calls, instructing her husband to return to the wilderness to fast to death.

She said Mackenzie's teachings led to the deaths of her six children and that she burned their birth certificates after being told national ID cards were "the mark of the beast." Followers were also taught that formal education, employment, and medical treatment were sinful.

The trial continues as the prosecution builds its case against Mackenzie and his co-accused over the deaths of hundreds of followers.

Jessica Oji is Nigeria's first-ever world field event champion.

The 19-year-old won gold at the World U20 Championships in Eugene, Oregon, with a throw of 18.08 meters, becoming the first Nigerian to win a world title in a field event at any level.

She was the only competitor to throw over 18 meters, dominating the competition.

The victory comes just nine days after she won silver for Nigeria at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

Oji switched allegiance from the United States to Nigeria in February, and she is already rewriting the record books.

Prior to her gold, Nigeria had only two field event medals in U20 history, a silver in 2002 and a bronze in 2021. What a talent. 🏆
