Capital Karting Challenge launches May 23-24 at Summit Point

SUMMIT POINT, WV — The second season of sprint racing at Summit Point Motorsports Park's Washington Circuit is set to launch this May 23-24 with the debut of the new Capital Karting Challenge.

Last year, Woodbridge Kart Club ran three sprint races at the Washington Circuit. These races marked the first sprint events in the long history of WKC, a road racing series since the 1970s.

This year, WKC President Bill Kassy has formed his own program in CKC, which will host four events at the Washington Circuit plus an October race at United Karting in collaboration with UK’s club program.

“We’re looking forward to a great season,” Kassy stated. “We have a solid group of officials lined up, a challenging track, and a nice schedule. Racers will get plenty of track time for reasonable entry prices. Both 2-cycle and Briggs classes are offered. We’ve already received a number of entries for our May race and I think it'll be a fun one.”

Cal Stewart won a uniquely formatted $600 Senior 206 money race to close out Friday practice day at the 3rd annual American Karting Tour Carolina Turkey Shootout at Carolina Motorsports Park.

A full race day for 206 and vintage flathead classes is on tap for Saturday at CMP!

Congratulations to Cal Stewart, winner of Friday’s Senior 380 # money race at the AKT Carolina Turkey Shootout!

Eli Fox started from the pole and led the first 20 laps until the competition caution on lap 20. A mandatory pit stop meant all drivers had to change right-side tires as fast as possible, retake the track to a green flag, and run a 5-lap shootout.

Stewart led Marc Stehle off pit road and maintained a gap over Stehle for the final five laps to take the win, good for a cool $600 payday! Stehle took P2 for $400 with Ryan Sukeena collecting $300 for P3. Fox and Jamie Bradford finished in the money in fourth and fifth.

A full day of racing in on tap for Saturday with two rounds of practice, qualifying, heats and main events for the 3rd annual Turkey Shootout at CMP. Over 100 karts expected — looking forward to a great (albeit cold 🥶) day of racing in South Carolina!

LAS VEGAS, Nev. — Prodigy Motorsports of Monroe, N.C., made a strong statement in its first-ever trip to the Superkarts! USA SuperNationals, qualifying for a coveted main event start in the headline Pro X30 division with 16-year-old driver Adam Brickley of Mooresville, N.C. The effort also marked a milestone for the Bestkart chassis — its first final appearance at the famed SuperNats in the Italian chassis brand’s relaunch after attending the last two editions of the premier event.

For Brickley, SuperNationals 28 served as his debut at both the prestigious SKUSA event and in the Pro X30 division. The young North Carolina driver quickly proved he belonged with the sport’s elite.

Brickley qualified 19th, then surged forward to a solid P10 result in Heat 1. In Heat 2, he again ran near the top 10 before being collected in an incident with just three corners remaining. Undeterred, 𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗯𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗱 𝗯𝗿𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗹𝘆 𝗶𝗻 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝘁 𝟯 — rescheduled for Sunday morning after heavy Saturday afternoon rain postponed the final prelim to the following day. Starting P9, 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗣𝟵, 𝗕𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗸𝗹𝗲𝘆 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝗼𝗻 𝗹𝗮𝗽 𝟰 after reeling in standout driver Alessandro De Tullio.

Brickley relinquished the top spot to eventual main event winner Gus Lawrence on lap 6, but remained glued to Lawrence’s bumper throughout the closing laps. A last-corner passing attempt was spoiled by water still on the racing surface, but Brickley held strong to 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘀𝗵 𝗮𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝗼𝗳 𝗿𝗲𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝗞𝗨𝗦𝗔 𝗣𝗿𝗼 𝗫𝟯𝟬 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗺𝗽𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗔𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻 𝗚𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗼𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗮 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗣𝟮 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘂𝗹𝘁.

Despite the bad luck in Heat 2, Brickley’s P10 and P2 heat results earned enough points to qualify directly for the 36-kart main event without needing to run the LCQ.

Starting 26th in Sunday night’s final, Brickley was swept into a multi-kart melee in the opening corners. Despite a severely bent steering shaft, he continued and battled to a gritty 32nd-place finish in his first SuperNationals appearance.

“We came to Vegas to measure our team and the Bestkart against the top teams in the world, and Adam proved he can run with them,” said 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗱𝗶𝗴𝘆 𝗠𝗼𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘀 𝗼𝘄𝗻𝗲𝗿 𝗖𝗵𝗿𝗶𝘀 𝗠𝘂𝗿𝗿𝗮𝘆. “For our first SuperNats appearance — and Bestkart’s first main event start in recent years — it’s a huge step forward.”

The event also marked the first major outing for Murray’s The Kart Shoppe of North Carolina since 𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗲𝗲-𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗮𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗼𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗘𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝗖𝗼𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗠𝗶𝗱𝘄𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗯𝘂𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗕𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗸𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗶𝘀. With Brickley’s performance, the Bestkart platform demonstrated its competitiveness on one of karting’s biggest stages.
