Well it looks like the EF-5 drought is officially over.

After months of analysis with meteorologists and engineers, Enderlin, North Dakota gets added to the list.

This tornado occurred on June 20th of this year.

The last EF-5 in the U.S was May 20th 2013 in Moore, Oklahoma!

Good News!

The model trends from yesterday held, and Imelda looks to make a sharp turn out to sea well before reaching the Carolina coastline.

We could still see some rain Monday and Tuesday, but this looks to only help our drought as the flooding threat is near 0.

Fall weather arrives by the middle of this week!

After analyzing the afternoon model data here is my latest forecast for soon to be Imelda.
The good news: The trends since yesterday point to a more offshore track.

The bad news: There will still be plenty of impacts in the Carolinas, particularly coastal South Carolina. Unfortunately the trend has also been for the storm to stall out Monday and Tuesday. This means it will be a more prolonged event wherever it decides to stall. The exact location of this stall will be crucial to the end forecast.

Right now it looks to stall close enough to shore to bring high impacts including surge, coastal flooding, and gusty winds to the beaches.

Back home in Charlotte, the main concern remains heavy rain that could lead to some flooding Monday and Tuesday. There is likely to be a sharp cutoff in the heaviest rain totals near the city. We will know more about the magnitude of this once we get into mesoscale model range.

This forecast is still fluid, so expect refinements!

Chances are increasing for a landfalling tropical system early next week in the Carolinas.

It's too soon for specifics, but it's a forecast you'll want to keep up with. Timing for any potential impacts in Charlotte would be in the Monday-Wednesday range.

Right now my biggest concern is excessive rainfall, but should things evolve, we may be dealing with more than that.

EXPECT CHANGES TO THIS FORECAST, but this is how I see it right now!

Unfortunately the chances of rain for the Chapel Hill vs Charlotte game tomorrow has increased.

- Timing: 5-9pm
- Scattered showers/storms
- Lightning delays are possible

The good news is this will be in and out of here once it rolls through.

Tailgating will be HOT & MUGGY!
