🌞This morning, Crosland Southeast broke ground on a new development on the Eastland mall site after more than a decade of vacancy.

The name?: The mixed-use development will be called Eastland Yards.

Details: Plans for the site include retail space, a health clinic, 250 apartments, affordable housing for seniors and restaurants.

🌳According to reports, the 20 acres once promised to Panthers owner David Tepper could become an outdoor space.

🚫If you remember, Tepper backed out of the Eastland site deal a few weeks ago.
The plan was to have Charlotte FC's headquarters there and Youth Academy.

📰As we said in our morning newsletter, this development has been a long time coming since the once booming Eastland mall closed in 2010.

👯‍♂️Many East Charlotte residents have been waiting for something to happen to the empty lot for a long time. As you can imagine, everyone isn't satisfied.

🛹Some wanted the skate park and vendor market to stay. While others look forward to new high-end developments, they feel east Charlotte is missing.

🐾Panthers release 2022 jersey schedule

What: Carolina will wear white in the first nine games of the regular season before wearing black in four of the final eight games (vs. Atlanta, vs. Denver, vs. Pittsburgh, and Detroit).

The Panthers: "This season, Carolina will only wear blue jerseys twice, in the preseason at Washington and Week 17 at Tampa Bay.”

Note: As announced in July, Carolina will break out black helmets for the first time in franchise history in Week 10 on Thursday Night Football against the Falcons.

Fun fact: Carolina is 116-128-1 all-time in white, 69-79 in black, and 20-20 in blue in the regular season.

HEALTH ALERT: Vaccines available for people at high risk of exposure to monkeypox starting today

🏥Mecklenburg County Public Health (MCPH) will provide the Jynneos (monkeypox) vaccine starting Wednesday, July 13.

💉The vaccine can prevent illness or lead to less severe symptoms if given within two weeks after exposure to monkeypox.

Who’s high risk?:

•An individual who has been in close physical contact in the past 14 days with someone diagnosed with monkeypox, or

•An individual who knows their s*xual partner was diagnosed with monkeypox, or

•Gay men or transgender individuals who have had multiple or anonymous s*x partners in the last 14 days. In either a venue where monkeypox was present or an area where the virus is spreading.

ICYMI: Gov. Cooper signs executive order to protect abortion rights in NC

📃Executive Order 263, signed by Gov. Roy Cooper on Wednesday, July 6, extends protections to patients, doctors, nurses and healthcare providers seeking and performing abortions in North Carolina.

The breakdown:

•Prohibits anyone from blocking access to a health care facility

•Protects extradition for those seeking or providing reproductive health care services in North Carolina

•Prohibits Cabinet agencies from cooperating in investigations initiated by other states into anyone obtaining or providing reproductive health care that is legal in North Carolina

•Cabinet agencies cannot require a pregnant state employee to travel to a state where there are no protections for the health of the pregnant person

🏥 In the weeks since the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, North Carolina clinics have reported a surge in out of state patients.

NOTE: President Biden also signed an executive order protecting reproductive rights for Americans.

🏈Welcome to Charlotte Baker Mayfield

🐻The Cleveland Browns traded quarterback Baker Mayfield to the Carolina Panthers on Wednesday in exchange for a 2024 conditional draft pick.

Details: The Browns will receive a fourth- or fifth-round pick in 2024, depending on Mayfield's playing time in Carolina — where he would have to play 70% of the snaps, ESPN reports.

Note: Mayfield was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2018 draft. On its quarterback depth chart, he'll join Sam Darnold, the Panther's No. 3 overall selection in 2018.

🏟According to ESPN, The Panthers have no intention of trading Darnold after acquiring Mayfield.

🐾The Panthers finished the 2021 season 5-12. The team's Training Camp, open to the public, begins Wednesday, July 27.

⚽️Apple x Major League Soccer announce historic partnership.

🍎Starting in early 2023, Apple TV will be the only place to watch Charlotte FC games.

💻The tech giant and the league announced on Tuesday a ten-year partnership that will allow fans worldwide to watch all MLS matches in one place via the streaming service— a historic first for a professional sports league.

EXPLAIN: That means no more broadcast blackouts on games, but no more watching games through traditional cable TV.

🐾The Carolina Panthers made history this week with the announcement of adding a transgender woman to its TopCats squad.


📣Justine Lindsay, 29, is the NFL’s first openly transgender woman to join one of the league’s professional cheer squads.

🐈‍⬛TopCats director Chandalae Lanouette and the Panthers have both said Lindsay’s skills are what secured her spot on the team, as told by NPR.

🚆Beginning June 30, the LYNX Stonewall Station will be renamed Brooklyn Village Station.

🚦The Blue Line name change comes as the city recently announced Stonewall Street uptown would be renamed Brooklyn Village Avenue as part of efforts to rectify CLT’s legacy of racial discrimination.

◼️The new street names honor the legacy of the historic Black Brooklyn community located in CLT’s Second Ward.

🛤The neighborhood was razed in the late 1960s, displacing thousands of residents and many businesses which never reopened.

✈️CLT Douglas Airport is expanding

Construction on Phase 2 of Concourse A is underway at the world’s 6th busiest airport.

DETAILS:
•The 10-gate addition will house Delta Air Lines and three common use gates

•Concessions will include a retail store, a restaurant and two open bars

•High ceilings and scenic windows; temperature controlled window tinting

•Cost: $231 million
