Not long ago, I got a diagnosis that changed everything:
dermatomyositis.
I remember feeling overwhelmed, angry, and honestly — a little lost. Why couldn’t I just do things the “normal” way?Why did everyday routines suddenly feel like high-stakes decisions?
But here’s what I learned:It’s not about being “broken.”It’s about learning new strategies that actually help you heal.
Here are the first changes I made (and the products I trust):
🧺 Laundry: Swapped out my old detergent for Molly’s Suds and truly free (gentle on skin, free of harsh chemicals).
🧴 Skincare: Cleared out my bathroom shelf and switched to pomifera (soothing, safe ingredients only).
🥗 Nutrition: Said goodbye (for now) to gluten, dairy, and refined sugar — didn’t realize how much those triggered my symptoms until I cut them out.(Favorite alternatives: Oatly ice cream, fresh fruit, and hummus and veggies)
🤸♀️ Movement: Made a big shift from intense workouts to healing movement: Pilates, yoga, and long walks have become my essentials.(If you’re looking for a great at-home program: Pilates by Izzy on YouTube)
🧘♀️ Mindset: Started meditating regularly. It’s not always easy, but it’s made every day a little lighter.(Apps or tools I love: Dr. Joe or so many others on YouTube )
So, if you’re newly diagnosed — or just trying to figure out how to feel better in your body — please remember:You’re not failing. You’re not cursed. You’re just writing a new instruction manual for yourself.
Save this for later if you need the reminder.Share with a friend who’s navigating a new diagnosis.
