This is what it looks like when you’re on the windward side of the island when it’s blowing 20+knots (24mph+). Google animated (see the animated version in the comments) the several attempts we made at getting a selfie while visiting French Leave Beach, one of the beautiful pink sand beaches in Eleuthera.

Hopefully the animation makes it through this post🤪

Hello from the Bahamas! Yes we are still out here doing our thing. No we haven't quit or gotten bored or given up on this crazy like. If anything, we've been soaking it all in. Hence the lack of social media posts😆

We have been having a great time in the Bahamas and wanted to share a quick update + special moment in our cruising adventure in which I (pinky) got to play with a legit rake n scrape band on Cat Island. Julian and his crew hosted a bunch of us cruisers for food, beverages, and music at Da Smoke Pot in Arthur's Town. What an amazing experience. We jammed for 3 or 4 hours and made them late to their evening gig (they wouldn't quit saying "just one more"). has a way of uniting people from all different backgrounds, and this afternoon was just one example of it.

More later on all the other stuff we've been exploring. Enjoy this little bit of authentic Bahamanian culture.

Another blog post is up! This time, we share how we’re using our CerboGX (one of the many electronics devices we’ve got on the boat) to help us tell the tides in the Bahamas. It’s not an exact science, but it’s close enough for army work here. You can read more at the link below.

We are still in the Bahamas, and have mostly been hiding from the big winds that come with an active winter weather pattern. Contrary to what you might think, January in the Bahamas, especially up north, is not bikini weather every day! In fact, it got pretty cold one night (in the mid-50sF). We’ve been warm and safe, and enjoying being home-bodies, though we are looking forward to getting back to a more active lifestyle as we get further south and the weather is more conducive to outdoor activies.

We’re enjoying the sailing as we can take advantage of the northerly winds, and learning where all the good holding with northwestern protection is in the Exumas. Perhaps we’ll write about that next! In the meantime, check the blog post if you’re interested in data and dashboards. There are some pretty pictures too.

We've been in the Bahamas for 2 weeks, and have mainly been hiding from weather or traveling to get protection from the next system. January in the north and central Bahamas is greatly impacted by the winter weather systems in the southeast USA and we have had an active winter pattern for the last 3 weeks with no signs of letting up.

Thus, we find ourselves in Cambridge Cay, Exumas with 20 or 30 of our newest friends. As we've been prepping for the impending blow (up to 50k gusts Sat night/Sun morning - the same system dropping a winter storm in NC), most people in the anchorage have gotten in a group WhatsApp chat and we even gathered last night to meet each other. It's a testament to the wild nature of this life...where total strangers will gather, commune, and offer help with no questions asked.

What if we lived land life in this way? How different would our world look?

Well, we're all prepped and ready for yet another big blow. Hatches are battened and everything is secured. And we've been enjoying the slow pace, gorgeous water, and cooler temperatures. Grateful to be out here even when paradise feels a little different than the photos suggest.

We're in the Bahamas! We left St Augustine on Friday morning (Jan16) and arrived in Lucaya (Freeport) on Grand Bahama Island. It was a challenging passage that had us fighting fatigue most of the time. On top of that, we had to motor almost the entire way. We learned a lot about ourselves, sailing/navigating challenging sea state, and the realities of fatigue.

Happy to spend a few days (or a week?) in Lucaya waiting for the next window. Happy to be in the Bahamas again and looking forward to continuing south!

Rolling into the anchorage right at sunset? Not our ideal scenario, but waiting for a lower tide at a bridge squeezed our passage a bit today.

What's wrong with sunset? Mainly the angle of the light. The sun invariably is in your face for some part of the ride, which makes navigating around crab pots and markers challenging. Getting in at dusk also reduces visibility for anchoring making that trickier as well.

That said, we got in fine and got settled after a very cold day on the water. Grateful the sun finally came out after a week of overcast and rainy weather. Seeking warmer temps! We're in Hilton Head tonight and then continuing tomorrow towards Savannah and beyond.

After a week under the weather, Pinky finally was up for going out and we encountered so much holiday cheer while we were out. People were friendly and we kept saying hello and enjoying the subtle buzz of general good will. It's certainly a privilege that I do not take for granted (in addition to feeling healthy enough to enjoy it).

In this video, a friendly stranger offered to take our photo and then I jokingly asked if he was taking video (a funny trick I do to people sometimes). And then of course a video ensued. It was a lovely memory that could not have been planned.

And we’re in Charleston! We’ve actually been here since Friday, but we’ve been had a flurry of activity since we arrived in port. The passage from Beaufort, nc was a bit more lumpy than we anticipated, but the boat handled the seas like a champ. The crew adjusted quickly, and were very glad to have an extra set of hands. We saw dolphins, sailed most of the passage, and learned what cabinets make the most noise when tossed around😂

Once in port, we got some rest, ate some good food, and made plans for next steps as we slow down a bit. Today, we said goodbye to our crew member, Peter, as we are working on repairs to starlink and an air conditioner that will have us in port for a time. We love Charleston and are happy to be already be this far south before thanksgiving.

On the move again! We've made it down to Beaufort, NC (bo-furt) and prepping to head to Charleston tonight. Making great progress. We also have a new crew member, which makes overnight passages easier.

Loving the new sails we picked up in Deltaville. Very happy to be feeling warmer weather already.

More updates coming up!

There is so much more to share but for now, this must suffice. Another goal accomplished: sail to the statue of liberty. So happy to be here and hit this milestone. NYC is a special place.

And while our country (and the world) feels like it's in a big upheaval, it's fascinating to visit these monuments to freedom which have no politics and no passion. We appreciate the freedom we have currently, and hope to continue taking advantage of our freedom.

We're heading south towards Deale for a few repairs, the boat show, and prep for further southbound venturing (Bahamas, Caribbean, etc) for the winter. More to come!

We didn't exactly plan to hike Bald Peak today, but the timing, the weather, and the crew all agreed to make the detour from the planned easy trail and go up a more challenging path. The views from the top were well worth the climb up and down. I (pinky) am absolutely in love with acadianps and will be back. 10/10 will hike again.

We are wrapping up our time in Mt Desert Island before we head further west. We've slowly begun our journey west, and will start heading south soon as the weather starts to shift. Maine is amazing cruising grounds.
