Childhood trauma doesn’t always stay in the past—it can shape how we think, feel, and respond as adults. Experiences such as neglect, abuse, or chronic stress during early development can alter emotional regulation, stress responses, and interpersonal functioning later in life (Felitti et al., 1998; Teicher & Samson, 2016).
Research shows that adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) are associated with increased risks of anxiety, depression, difficulties with trust, maladaptive coping, and persistent feelings of shame or inadequacy (Hughes et al., 2017). These patterns are not signs of weakness—they are often adaptive responses that once helped individuals survive.
The encouraging part? The brain remains capable of change. With support, self-awareness, and evidence-based interventions, healing and resilience are possible (Anda et al., 2006).
✨ Healing is not about erasing the past—it’s about reclaiming your present.
