After 57 years at 108 Church Street, the Pineville Fire Department officially stepped into a new era on Tuesday, May 26, 2026.

The department has now moved into its new home at 311 North Polk Street โ€” a state-of-the-art firehouse built to serve the Town of Pineville for generations to come.

Designed by Pineville firefighters with guidance from Stewart Cooper Newell Architects P.A. and built by Edifice Construction, this station is the result of years of planning, collaboration, and a shared commitment to public safety.

Built not only for todayโ€™s firefighters, but for the generations who will come after us, this station represents the future of the Pineville Fire Department while honoring its past.

Firefighters, chief officers, town leadership, community members, and the family of fallen Pineville Firefighter Richard Sheltra gathered to mark the official opening of the new station โ€” a moment rooted in tradition, service, and progress.

The ceremony featured remarks from Mayor Amelia Stinson-Wesley, Town Manager Ryan Spitzer, and Fire Chief Michael Gerin, followed by a symbolic โ€œUncoupling Ceremonyโ€ recognizing the transition from the historic Church Street station into a new chapter.

The new firehouse includes:

๐Ÿ”ฅ 6 large pull-thru apparatus bays

๐Ÿ”ฅ Stair tower (also used for firefighter training while on duty)

๐Ÿ”ฅ Fitness and support spaces for firefighter wellness

๐Ÿ”ฅ Administrative offices and modern living quarters

๐Ÿ”ฅ Fire Department museum preserving Pineville FD history

๐Ÿ”ฅ Historic artifacts including a restored hose cart

๐Ÿ”ฅ Three brass fire poles connecting living quarters directly to the apparatus floor

Built with more than 2 million pounds of concrete block, this station stands as more than a building โ€” it reflects sacrifice, pride, and the continued evolution of the Pineville Fire Department since 1955.

Inside the station, a memorial display honors Firefighter Richard Sheltra, who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty in 2016. His gear stands as a lasting reminder of service, dedication, and the standard he set for those who follow.

While the address has changed, the mission has not.

Pineville Fire remains committed to protecting its community โ€” today, tomorrow, and for generations to come.

On Tuesday, May 19, 2026, members of Charlotte Fire Department, Charlotte NC Station 32 B-Shift gathered for a traditional Push-In Ceremony before officially placing the departmentโ€™s brand-new Ladder 32 into frontline service.

Led by Battalion 7 B-Shift Battalion Chief Matt Yost and Ladder Captain Tommy DeFrancisci, firefighters assigned to Station 32 proudly pushed the new 2025 Pierce Mfg Enforcer Ascendant 107โ€™ Heavy-Duty Rear Mount Aerial into its new home at CFD Station 32.

While the apparatus may be brand new, the tradition behind it dates back centuries.

During the 17th and 18th centuries, early hand-drawn fire engines, hose carts, and ladder wagons had to be physically pushed back into the firehouse after every response. Even after horse-drawn steam engines were introduced, firefighters often still pushed the apparatus into the station by hand to properly align them inside the bay.

Today, departments across the country continue the tradition as a symbol of pride, brotherhood, and respect for the generations of firefighters who came before them.

For Charlotte firefighters, the arrival of Ladder 32 represents more than just a new truck โ€” itโ€™s part of a new chapter for Charlotte Fire Department as the department continues transitioning to new Pierce Manufacturing apparatus across the city.

Moments like this are more than just ceremonies โ€” they represent the beginning of a new chapter for the firefighters who will ride this truck and the community they protect every day. Fire News

On Sunday, May 17, 2026, at approximately 10:30a.m., Indian Land Fire District responded alongside mutual aid companies to a reported structure fire at 6747 Baker Creek Ave.

First-arriving crews from Pineville Fire Department encountered heavy fire conditions showing from a large two-story, approximately 3,300-square-foot residence. Under the command of Pineville Fire Department Deputy Chief Jason Klemowicz, firefighters quickly stretched attack lines and initiated an aggressive interior fire attack.

As crews continued offensive operations, a Mayday was transmitted over the radio for two downed firefighters operating inside the structure.

Both firefighters were able to self-extricate from the residence and make it to safety. The firefighters were transported by Lancaster County EMS and Mecklenburg EMS Agency - Medic (MEDIC) to Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center with reported burn and fall-related injuries. Both firefighters are expected to make full recoveries.

An additional firefighter was transported to a nearby hospital suffering from heat exhaustion.

Due to the Mayday and deteriorating fire conditions, command was transferred to Indian Land FD Battalion Chief Josh Honeycutt, who immediately requested additional mutual aid from the Charlotte Fire Department, Charlotte NC, bringing Engine 32 and Ladder 32 to the scene.

Crews later transitioned to a defensive fire attack utilizing tower ladder master streams from Indian Land Tower 2, Pineville Tower 1, and Charlotte Ladder 32.

MEDIC also responded with their MERV (Major Emergency Response Vehicle) Bus to assist with firefighter rehabilitation operations.

The fire was brought under control in approximately one hour. The cause remains under investigation by the Lancaster County Fire Marshalโ€™s Office. Waxhaw Fire Department provided standby coverage for Indian Land Fire District at Indian Land FD Station 2. Fire News

Some people wake up dreading their jobโ€ฆ

But for meโ€”this isnโ€™t just a job.

Itโ€™s being there when it matters most.
Itโ€™s witnessing moments most people will never see.
Itโ€™s telling the story of those who answer the call.

After time away, getting back out here has reminded me exactly why I do this.

Grateful for every moment. Grateful for every opportunity this path has given me. Grateful for this community.

On Tuesday, April 21, 2026, at approximately 11:49 a.m., crews from the Flint Hill Fire Department were alerted by York County Department of Public Safety Communications to an overturned tractor-trailer with an active spill at Carowinds Blvd & Lakemount Blvdโ€”while still operating at a structure fire on Holloway Drive.

With Flint Hill Fire Department units committed at a structure fire, Fort Mill Fire Department and City of Tega Cay, SC Fire Department responded to the overturned tractor-trailer incident. Tega Cay FD Engine 1 arrived to Carowinds Blvd with a tractor-trailer overturned, carrying 11 250-gallon totes containing paint.

Under the command of Flint Hill Fire Department Chief Todd Wisner, firefighters determined approximately 500 gallons of paint had leaked, with an estimated 150 to 200 gallons spilling onto the roadway, while the majority remained contained within the trailer.

Firefighters from Tega Cay quickly deployed a precautionary hose line while Flint Hill Engine 1 and Rescue 1 firefighters simultaneously initiated containment efforts, working to dam the spill and prevent the material from entering nearby storm drains.

Additional support from York County Office of Emergency Management (YCOEM) and the South Carolina Department of Environmental Services (SCDES) responded to helped coordinate containment and cleanup efforts. A hazmat clean up company was brought in to safely off-load and transfer the remaining product into secondary containers preventing further spill when the tractor and trailer were uprighted.

Flint Hill Fire Department personnel operated on scene for approximately two hours before returning to service with the scene being turned over to the York County OEM. Fire News

On Friday, April 17, 2026, Chief David Jennings of the Flint Hill Fire Department officially signed off the air for the final time, marking the end of an extraordinary 50-year career in the fire service.

Surrounded by members of the department, along with his family, friends, and fellow firefighters, Chief Jennings was honored as he concluded his service with the organization he helped build and lead for decades.

Chief Jennings began his journey on January 1, 1971. Through dedication and leadership, he rose through the ranks, serving as Assistant Chief from 1980 to 1997 before becoming Chief of Department on January 1, 1998โ€”a position he held for 28 years.

During his tenure, he played a critical role in transforming the Flint Hill Fire Department from an all-volunteer organization into a modern, fully career fire department, ensuring the highest level of protection for the citizens of York County, South Carolina.

His impact reaches far beyond the departmentโ€”his leadership helped shape the York County fire service as a whole.

Chief Jenningsโ€™ legacy is one of commitment, professionalism, and service above self.

We thank him for five decades of dedication and wish him nothing but the best in his well-earned retirement.

Join us in thanking Chief Jennings for 50 years of service ๐Ÿ‘‡
