Gratitude has been the pillar of healing and growth for me. When I look for inspiration I don’t have to look any further than this dude.

He has every reason to be scared, fearful or shut down, and yet he meets every moment of life with love and enthusiasm.

I’m grateful that Forgotten, Now Family Rescue put Herman in my life. He is a source of constant joy and inspiration.

Today I got to see one of the pups represented by the broken chains on my arm. 108 and counting but she is one of the more impressive glow ups.

It felt good to see. It helped remind me who I am and why I do what I do.

And now we add a little Herman to top off a wonderful day.

This is why we choose rescue…

Because for the work we do, providing service dogs to veterans and first responders, or training therapy dogs for first responder agencies - Rescue can.

Because a forgotten little puppy can learn to save and support our heroes.

K9 Responder Foundation is committed to utilizing rescue dogs in our mission to support our heroes. Your support helps us make that happen.

Please like, share, and follow to help us grow and have the greatest impact we can.

Thank you
-Rick

This wasn’t how I wanted to announce that the K9 Responder Foundation is now officially a rescue under the Special Rescue Group, but I couldn’t look away from this one and now we need your help to launch in the right way, to boost our funds, and to help find Aries the home he deserves while we get everything else in order to continue to serve the animals of the Carolinas like never before.

Aries belonged to Debbie Scott, founder of the Kim Scott Angel Rescue. Debbie was also an Army veteran.

I couldn’t let the dog she loved so much go to a shelter I knew he wouldn’t come out of. So here we are, officially a whole ass rescue - and I need your help.

If you can donate, fantastic. If you can share this post, excellent, and if you can invite your friends to follow us and maximize our reach, I promise we will use that to help change the face of animal welfare in the Carolinas.

If you’re interested in adopting Aries, please message me, I’ll get you our adoption app.

Share share share - Thank you 🙏

I filmed this a few weeks ago at Freedom Farm. We turned a rough overgrown slope into pretty decent stair access. A nice spot where these former chain dogs can play, relax and cool off.

It was nice to build something for once. I’m stoked that my buddy gets to enjoy it after all he’s been through.

I think I might do some more of that.

book is available on Amazon, with all of the proceeds going to Forgotten, Now Family Rescue

If you want to support the rescue and freedom farm more directly, the best options are below.

His scars show the horrors he survived, his smile shows a spirit that couldn’t be destroyed.

Y’all know I love me a chain dog. I got to meet Diesel recently and I am over the moon for him. He’s highly trainable, good with dogs under supervision (My standard disclaimer for all dogs) and he’s a blast to be around.

He’s looking for a forever home. If you’re interested in this sweet man, seeing why I’m a chain dog addict and maybe becoming one yourself, message me for details!

When I first felt like I lost my way in the rescue world, I committed to some pretty big changes to do better. I wanted to be able to apologize to the folks I had failed and thought being able to show some real work would help.

But real, meaningful change isn’t instant, and a rush to apologize would have been about making myself feel better, not making real change or real amends.

It’s tough to watch what’s happening in the animal welfare scene, to get people calling out for help all day every day, and to still feel like I’m not fit for duty.

But I will be. I’m grateful for the support so many folks have offered while I recalibrate. I’m grateful to my friends at Fairytale Farm Rescue & Sanctuary for helping get me a little closer.
