Nicola Sacco and Bartolomeo Vanzetti — Italian immigrants and labor activists — were convicted of murder and robbery in Massachusetts after a controversial trial lasting two months. Many historians believe the trial was deeply unfair, driven more by anti-immigrant sentiment than solid evidence.
Despite global protests and appeals, both men were executed in 1927.

Fifty years later, Massachusetts Governor Michael Dukakis issued a proclamation declaring they had been treated unjustly, stating:
"Any disgrace should be forever removed from their names."
