Today is the final post in the Names of God series. Thank you for following along with me. I learned so much about God through this journey. What was your favorite name in this series? We haven’t scratched the surface on this so stay tuned for more series like this in the future to learn more about God through Jesus Christ.

Today, we are honoring God as ‘YHWH-Zidkenu’ (often written as Jehovah Tsidkenu) from Jeremiah 23:6.

““Behold, the days are coming,” says the Lord, “That I will raise to David a Branch of righteousness; A King shall reign and prosper, And execute judgment and righteousness in the earth. In His days Judah will be saved, And Israel will dwell safely; Now this is His name by which He will be called: THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS.” ‭‭Jeremiah‬ ‭23‬:‭5‬-‭6‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

YHWH

Today, we are honoring God as ‘YHWH’ pronounced Yahweh from ‭‭Exodus 3:‭15.

“Moreover God said to Moses, “Thus you shall say to the children of Israel: ‘The LORD God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you. This is My name forever, and this is My memorial to all generations.’” ‭‭Exodus‬ ‭3‬:‭15‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

In this verse, “LORD” is the translation of YHWH (יהוה), which is the personal name of God. The original Hebrew text uses this term.

YHWH is God’s covenant name. It is the most sacred and personal name revealed to Moses at the burning 🔥 bush.

YHWH is referred to as the Tetragrammaton meaning 4 letters. It was considered by the Israelites as too holy to speak so ‘Adonai’ meaning ‘Lord’ is used in its place.

Today, we are honoring God as ‘El Qanna,’ meaning “Jealous God” from Exodus 34:14.

“But you shall destroy their altars, break their sacred pillars, and cut down their wooden images (for you shall worship no other god, for the Lord, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God),” Exodus 34:13-14 (NKJV)

This term describes how God doesn’t want anything or anyone to be more important in our lives than He is. He desires our full attention and affection and does not tolerate idolatry of any kind. While we may not build physical altars, we can still hold idols in our hearts if we’re not careful.
