Never Forgotten🕊️: John Forté, the Grammy-nominated rapper and producer best known for his work with the Refugee Camp All-Stars and contributions to the Fugees’ classic album ‘The Score,’ has passed away at age 50.
Forté was found unresponsive at his home in Chilmark, Massachusetts, on January 12, 2026. Authorities have not released a cause of death, and no foul play is suspected.
Born in Brooklyn, New York, Forté played a key role in shaping 1990s Hip-Hop, earning recognition for his songwriting, production, and unique artistic vision. After serving time on federal drug charges in the early 2000s, his sentence was commuted in 2008, allowing him to rebuild his career and continue creating music.
Wyclef Jean paid tribute, calling Forté his “Refugee brother” and honoring his lasting impact on the culture.
Forté is survived by his wife and two children. His influence on Hip-Hop and music will be remembered for generations. RIP, John Forté.🙏🏿
