“Whenever I look back on my life, I cannot help but give thanks to God for His wonderful grace and guidance. There have been many seasons for which I am grateful and give glory to God. One of those seasons was the year 2020. Many remember this year as the start of the pandemic, but for me it was the beginning of my time with BBN’s Chinese Ministry. Currently, my husband Bobby and I serve God together at BBN, and we have witnessed how God has provided spiritual nourishment and encouragement through this ministry.
The year 2024 was also a very special season in my life. During an annual physical examination I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer. At that moment, I felt as though the sky was falling. Although I knew I had thyroid nodules, I had been consistently following up with specialists, and everything had been fine for over a decade. How could this suddenly happen? It felt like I was entering a countdown, and I truly realized that human life is finite.
During the waiting period, I felt tormented, but the prayers of many brothers and sisters brought me great comfort. I am grateful that God provided an experienced surgeon and miraculously reserved an open slot in her fully booked schedule. After the surgery, the doctor mentioned that she had removed many lesions that were not visible on the ultrasound. Through this experience I came to understand that, even if we cannot feel them, all the cancer cells must be removed so we can continue to live.
Every day is now a day of thanksgiving for me. I am grateful for the redemption of Jesus Christ that removed the cancer of sin from me while studying abroad in Japan many years ago. I am also grateful that my thyroid cancer was detected early, and that my life was spared. Most of all, I am grateful that God enables me to continue serving Him. As the Psalmist declared, “Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name” (100:4).”
