What a magical evening at the Paramount Theater! The Charlottesville Band brought holiday joy with a stunning performance of 'A Visit from St. Nicholas,' featuring Newell Long's delightful musical setting and the warm narration of Doug Schneider. The theater was filled with festive cheer and plenty of holiday spirit!

'A Visit from St. Nicholas'—better known as "'Twas the Night Before Christmas"—has been enchanting audiences since its first publication in 1823. Though Clement Clarke Moore is most often credited as the author, some debate remains, with Henry Livingston Jr. also a contender for its origins. No matter who penned it, this beloved poem has shaped the image of Santa Claus and inspired Christmas traditions for generations.

Important update: The Groundbreaking for the Kiwanis Nature Playground has been postponed until the spring because of worsening weather and the potential for icy conditions overnight.

❣️It’s happening tonight❣️

‼️Celebrating 25 Years of Lighting of the Lawn at UVA‼️

Join us at the University of Virginia for the annual Lighting of the Lawn—now in its landmark 25th year. This cherished tradition began in 2001, following the events of September 11, as a way to bring our community together in unity. What started as a simple candlelight vigil has grown into an amazing holiday light show at the Rotunda, fully organized by students and featuring performances by UVA student groups and individuals.

This year’s event is called “Remix,” a tribute to our traditions—transformed for the next generation. It’s the only holiday lighting ceremony happening in town tonight, so don’t miss out on this special celebration!

As the organizers said, “As the event enters its 25th year, we look forward to upholding the origins and traditions of Lighting of the Lawn.” Hope to see you there!
