✨My week in books—

It was a bit of a rough one getting back into the swing of work. I did end last weekend in Savannah, which was such a nice reset, but this week leaned more toward doom scrolling and binge-watching the show 1923 in the evenings than actual reading.

I did keep up with Broken Country on audio during my commutes, though—and wow, it is SO good. Definitely the highlight of my reading week.

I’m still reading What Happened Next by Edwin Hill-I’m about halfway through—and Broken Country.

It was a good week for getting outside- lots of walks and even a full day of book thrifting at Goodwill (always a win!).

My favorite walking spot this week was the Nature Trail at Edwards Park in Dalton—such a peaceful place to get some steps in and listen to an audiobook.

Here’s what I always look for when I’m thrifting kids books at Goodwill:
– Signed editions (such a fun find!)
– Bedtime books (I’m such a sucker for these)
– Board books—especially classics made kid-friendly
– Clean copies (a must for little hands)
– Dog Man books (always a win!)
– Anything from Dolly Parton's Imagination Library

I love finding books that kids will actually get excited about reading 🤍

Recently, my therapist told me I needed to find something (an outlet, a hobby…) just for me—and I realized I already had.

Sharing my love of reading and books, both here and through The Bookish Magpie, has become that space for me. It’s something I truly enjoy, and I’m so grateful I get to do it. Thank you God for allowing me to do this.

One of my favorite ways to keep reading affordable for myself and the selection at The Bookish Magpie is checking out Goodwill for books.

Over time, I’ve figured out a few things that help me actually find good ones:
– Authors I already love (easy yes every time)
– Books I’ve seen recommended in groups I follow
– Unbroken spines (usually means it hasn’t been read much)
– Clean copies (no heavy highlighting or damage)
– Popular or recognizable titles I’ve been curious about
- Favorite authors
- Sometimes it’s a beautiful cover that catches my attention

It’s kind of like a little treasure hunt every time I go.
