From the pier!
Well, after many hours on the pier I was able to land my personal best red snapper, from land, on Saturday. Measuring 32.5 inches and 19.17lbs after being bled and siting on ice for 5 hours.
Conditions were perfect Saturday. I've figured out a pattern that's allowed me to land almost 20 keepers from the pier this season. My first bait down died almost immediately. I caught another bait and within 5 minutes, I was hooked up. After a short but intense fight, it came out from under the pier and I knew this was my biggest of the year.
After changing my leader and a few feet of mono, I dropped an assortment of baits for another few hours. I had one more bite and it was an even larger snapper. This one was able to chafe through 80lb fluorocarbon before getting to the net. I'll be back out chasing them in a few days when the weather decides to cooperate.
My setup was a custom Thrasher 8107, Avet LX Raptor, 80lb pink Andes monofilament, 100lb Seaguar Premier fluorocarbon and a 7/0 BKK circle hook.
