Homeschooling Down South Resources, real talk, + regional adventures from 2 moms homeschooling down South

“Unsocialized” is a bold accusation for kids with a fuller calendar than most adults. 😂

Co-ops, field trips, homeschool days, park meetups, museums, hikes, road trips, community events…there is SO much happening in the homeschool world. And quite frankly, one of our favorite parts of Homeschooling Down South is helping you find those things! We’re always sharing places to go, things to do, resources to use, and ideas to enhance your homeschool.

Whether you’re currently homeschooling or just curious about what homeschool life can look like, follow along here and listen to the show wherever you get your podcasts. We still have so much to share!🤍

The short: Your kids don’t have to learn exactly like someone else’s kids. Your homeschool doesn’t have to look like a classroom. And sis, you are allowed to have a life outside of lesson plans. 🙃

The long: We’ve been homeschooling long enough to have a few icks 😂But these are the 3 we keep coming back to:

🛑Comparing your homeschool to someone else’s.
Every family has different goals, values, schedules, learning styles, and needs. What works beautifully for one homeschool may not be the right fit for yours. We talk about escaping the comparison trap in so many of our episodes but if you need one to get you started, check out Season 1, Episode 12 with Amber O’Neal Johnston👉🏻Amber O’Neal Johnston.

🛑Trying to recreate public school at home.
Homeschooling doesn’t have to look like a classroom to be effective. Learning can happen through conversations, books, projects, real-life experiences, and plenty of other approaches. There are so many avenues for learning and many of them don’t involve a desk or even a dedicated homeschool room. In fact, we came up with a whole new word to describe what this mix of different approaches looks like - Franken-schooling! To hear more about our Franken-schools, check out Season 1, Episode 35 with Jessy Fagerstrom👉🏻Jessy Fagerstrom.

🛑Filling everyone else’s schedule while completely forgetting about yourself.
Your needs matter too. Building in time for rest, relationships, hobbies, and the things that help you feel like yourself isn’t selfish. It’s part of creating a sustainable homeschool, because burn out is real and it benefits absolutely no one. We had the best conversation around this topic in Season 1, Episode 30 with Kathy Eggers 👉🏻 Kathy Eggers|Child Development Specialist, which is where we learned about Me Camp. If you haven’t listened to this one yet, go check it out. And if you have listened…maybe give it a second as a little reminder now that the school year is back in full swing.

And these are just a few of the inspiring conversations we had last season and we’re just getting started with season 2 so make sure you’re following the show🎙️New episodes dr
