Back when I was in college at Lenoir-Rhyne I had a course with a guy from Black Mountain, and at the time we were both 18 years old. If I remember correctly Harrah's Cherokee Casino just changed the age limit to 21. My classmate and I began a conversation about the casino when suddenly a girl from downstate NC turned around bright eyed and bushy tailed saying "Wait your an Indian?" I answered "Yes" then she said "Wow do you guys have power?" She stared in awh at me waiting for my answer while I looked back at her and asked "Do you use toilet paper to wipe your butt?" With a blank ignorant stare she said "Yes, why?" I just stared back at her until my Black Mountain classmate said "Geez _ _ _ it is the 20th Century, I can't believe you asked that". I included this dialogue because we were here, are still here and there is a little bit of Lily Gladstone in all Indigenous People!

Just FYI for EBCI members to prepare a comment or be aware of what's coming up for tribal law proposals and discussion at January's Council. Please see my understanding of Tribal code regarding proposed ordinances below:

Ordinances: bring forth the adoption of Tribal Laws. When a new ordinance is placed on the Tribal Council Agenda by majority vote it can be deemed read and tabled. Once it's deemed read and tabled the clerk will assign it a number. All newly proposed ordinances will be placed on a 25 calendar day holding period before Council can vote on it. The proposed ordinance shall be published by the Tribal Operations Program (TOP) in the Cherokee One Feather for public review and comment.
