Rez Dog Art Studio “I teach expressive self-awareness, mindfulness, promote problem solving through art. BA Studio Arts (Ceramics) & MA Art Therapy.

Teaching others how to create narrative works.” My work is fun, whimsical, and relatable. My work draws on childhood memories and experiences, exploring the role of toys in shaping our lives while examining the broader historical context of Native American history during the time these toys were invented. I invite the viewer to reconnect with their own childhood memories and emotions, while also r

ecognizing that significant events were unfolding elsewhere, often shaping the lives of Indigenous communities. Through my art, I aim to foster awareness of historical traumas and promote healing by encouraging reflection on how these past events continue to influence us. Toys play a crucial role in a child’s development, marking milestones in their growth and evoking powerful emotions—both joyful and painful—that we may or may not wish to revisit. As an art therapist, I view this as an opportunity to reconnect with the inner child, inviting others to rediscover the healing power of play. My inspiration is drawn from the work of Richard and Berdina Crowe, a Cherokee couple who created wooden Cherokee dolls with working body parts, which fascinated me and sparked my own creative journey. In 2006, I created my first cloth faceless Cherokee dolls, a project that continues to evolve. I experiment with various materials, including clay, fabric, leather, metals, and natural elements, as they allow me to express the fragility and resilience of childhood. Since 2015, I’ve incorporated corn shuck faceless dolls into my work, and I continue to explore new ways of expressing myself through these objects of play and memory. Each creation is a journey of reinvention and self-expression, inviting the viewer to engage with both their personal history and the larger narratives of trauma and resilience.

📣BREAKING NEWS!!! 📣 Beginning tomorrow (Oct 4), the entire Great Smoky Mountains National Park will reopen, despite the Federal government shutdown!!!

In anticipation of the shutdown, Sevier County, the cities of Gatlinburg, Sevierville, Pigeon Forge, and Pittman Center, Blount County, Cocke County, the State of Tennessee, the Tennessee Department of Tourist Development, Friends of the Smokies, along with the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, began working together on a plan to provide financial support to keep the national park fully operational in the event of a shutdown.

Once the shutdown commenced on Wednesday, the local and state partners began discussions with the U.S. Department of Interior and the National Park Service.

As of 12:01 AM on Saturday, the Great Smoky Mountains National Park is fully open and operational, per an agreement with the National Park Service, U.S. Department of Interior, and Sevier County, Tennessee.

Under the agreement, areas that were previously closed, such as Sugarlands Visitor Center, Chimneys Picnic Area, and Cades Cove Loop Road, Visitor Center, and Picnic Area, will be open and operational beginning Saturday morning.

Importantly, this funding also ensures that staff are on duty to service restrooms, respond to visitors in need, and provide essential services to protect wildlife during this peak visitor season.

Per the terms of the agreement, local and state partners will fund $61,703.18 each day to ensure full operations of the national park. Additionally, the national park will fund remaining daily operational costs through recreation fee revenue, which includes revenue from campgrounds and parking tags.

I spent two days with the Catawba Nation community. I thoroughly enjoyed meeting the citizens that attended the workshops. This hopefully will be a long time friendship with many that I met. These were photos from the youth workshops. Thank you for having me. ☺️
