The Rueter-Hess Reservoir serves primarily as a drinking water source for the Town of Parker and surrounding communities, but it also provides recreational opportunities for the community.

The reservoir is open for recreational use from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Fridays to Mondays through October. However, scuba diving, snorkeling, tubing, rafting, sail boating, swimming and ice fishing are prohibited.

On July 10, Andy Bass accepted the role to serve as South Suburban Parks and Recreation’s new executive director. Within his first year of serving South Suburban, Bass said he will focus on retaining staff and getting the district’s open positions filled. Four Front Range electrical utilities — Colorado Springs Utilities, CORE Electric Cooperative, Platte River Power Authority and United Power — are teaming up in an effort to modernize in-state electricity transmission.
