Hey friends, hope you're all safe and healthy ! I've been wanting to do a whitetail habitat management episode for a while, and so Episode 106 is now available! "Making the Most of Your Hunting Property" with habitat specialist Jon Teater who is the owner of @whitetail_landscapes in central NY.
.
If your family owns a small property, you don't need huge amounts of acreage to improve the habitat. If you hunt public land and your primary goal is to provide healthy, lean protein for your table, this convo can still help you understand the relationship between bedding cover, carrying capacity, food, and day-time whitetail activity. It's available wherever you listen, let us know what you think! #habitat #newyork #whitetaillandscapes #whitetaildeer #deerhunting #eatwild

We have learned recently of the ability to take this course online through Idaho which will be accepted here in NY. If you or someone you know needs a Hunters Safety Course before May 1st, this is a great option for you. Check out the video we put together and visit https://www.hunter-ed.com/idaho/

Modern Carnivore

Modern Carnivore and the Backcountry Hunters & Anglers (BHA) Club at the U of MN had originally scheduled a clinic focusing on turkey hunting on March 28, 2020. This was part of the Hunting For Sustainabiliy programming through BHA. Due to the Corona Virus we are moving this event online.
We'll be holding this online course so that people can still learn about turkey hunting from their home as they practice social distancing. We've also made this event FREE SO ANYONE CAN ATTEND. Just go to https://www.modcarn.com/turkey to reserve your seat.

Shoot Better With These Simple Drills

This is something I've struggled with for years - long distance shooting. Missed a beautiful mule deer buck in Nebraska at 210 yards in 2017. This year's Wyoming pronghorn trip was successful in most part to a good pair of shooting sticks and some practice. If you're trying to improve your shooting in the field, be sure to check this article out.

We sat in the ditch, watching the 160-class buck bound away. He gave one last flick of his tail before disappearing over the ridge. My guide clapped me on the shoulder and said something encouraging, but I could tell he was as disappointed as I was. I’d just had a mature whitetail in my scope at 1...

Anyone hunt archery mule deer in Nebraska? Tag price, proximity, and lower elevation make it appealing. Just not sure if I'd be better off going a little further west.
I just wanted to say “thank you” for having me on the podcast. It was more fun than I imagined, because rather than being nervous, it felt like sitting down and chatting with an old friend. That doesn’t happen with just anyone. I can’t wait to see how it turns out.
Episode 65 was one of my favorite to date. Content like that is desperately needed. Keep it up!
