Attended "GIRLS" Luncheon (Girls Inspired and Ready to Lead) Dec 2nd. They also partner with organizations to introduce girls to STEM fields including speech-language pathology and audiology. My mentees second row fourth and fifth from left. I am second row, third from right. The future is in great hands!

Positives to stress? Keynote speaker ASHA 2015 proposed four "upsides" that combine to build..... resilience, courage! When in the throes of stress, accept then look for the lessons you'll learn (two more keys in her book). Communicating with others & public speaking requires risk that can be stressful, even disabling for some. Developing ways to use this outlook in my work with clients. Your thoughts?

Aging Baby Boomers will make up 20% of the US population. Continuing a Book Club, should one develop a disorder like Aphasia, will greatly improve QOL (quality of life). Thanks to researchers at Case Western Reserve and the Cleveland Speech and Hearing Center. ASHA 2015 Convention.

Social Skills begin early. Poster session looks at helping preschoolers enter a social group. Target group taught ways to ask for "entrance" into a group, but peers also taught ways to appropriately respond. Principles helpful for adults as we too navigate groups (?) Denver's Blue Bear peeking into Convention Center where Speech-Language Pathologists & Audiologists gathered for 2015 Convention. This year's theme:Changing Minds, Lives and Leadership explored the evolution of profession since last meeting in Denver in 1968 when profession confronted then transformed the understanding of dialectical differences in language, from disorders. Tip # 1: Keep your voice box (larynx & vocal folds/cords) hydrated with water. Reduce caffeine which will dry your system.

Neal Augenstein of WTOP-Radio, conducts workshop
(for Accent On Speech) at Voice of America teaching broadcasters reporting skills using IPHONE and IPAD technology. Neal was first in our region to incorporate this technology into his reporting work. My work with this group centers on workshops such as Sounding Conversational on Air.
