Recently, the Laramie County Sheriff’s Office sent two K9 teams to Loveland, Colorado, to complete the Bureau of Alcohol, To***co, Fi****ms and Explosives (ATF) National Odor Recognition Test (NORT).
The certification required each team to locate 10 explosive target odors while ignoring several distractor odors designed to test the K9s’ accuracy and reliability. Both LCSO teams passed on their first attempt with no missed odors and no false alerts.
NORT certification helps ensure our K9 teams are prepared to detect explosives that could threaten our community. It also qualifies these teams to assist the ATF with explosive detection operations when needed across the nation.
This accomplishment reflects the training, teamwork, and dedication of both our K9s and their handlers.
