WEEKEND SPORTS RECAP: Kayleigh Hood has spent the fall on the cusp of her time goal in the 100-yard backstroke. Try as she might, the Cheyenne Central senior couldn't clock in less than 1 minute, 3 seconds. That changed during Saturday's 12-team Cheyenne Invitational. Hood stopped the clock in 1:02.70 to win the event. https://buff.ly/xiecl7T

On Oct. 1, 25 Laramie County sheriff’s deputies swore to faithfully discharge the duties of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Sheriff Brian Kozak has repeatedly assured the public that the deputies’ work with ICE is an extension of their regular duties and strictly limited to ensure no racial profiling occurs.

In spite of his continued efforts to reassure the community, however, advocates say that trust has already been broken. https://buff.ly/ofBRxcW

Friday morning, local officials entered a Cheyenne-area property and discovered dozens of animals living in horrific conditions. Many were found injured, sick and severely neglected – and tragically, some had already died.

Early estimates suggest that the cost of care for these animals could reach $150,000. Community members who wish to help can make a lifesaving difference by donating to support the Cheyenne Animal Shelter’s emergency response efforts can do so at cheyenneanimalshelter.org. https://buff.ly/aZtS46T

For Cheyenne East, that play came late in the first half of its game against Cheyenne Central.

The Thunderbirds went on to outscore their crosstown foe 35-14 in the second half to claim their 10th consecutive win over the Indians 42-24. https://buff.ly/6WfFAIa

SPORTS: Austin Teasley started setting his own bed time when he was in elementary school.

The Cheyenne Central senior wouldn’t even let fun activities like camping trips break his discipline. His family would be gathered around the fire only to see young Austin stand up and declare that he was off to bed.

“I think I was going to be about 7 then,” Teasley said with a grin Monday night. “I don’t know where it came from. My parents have always pushed me to be my best, but they didn’t push that on me. https://buff.ly/l36umDb
