Mother’s Day can hold many emotions at once. For some, it is joy and celebration. For others, it is grief, longing, disappointment, exhaustion, resentment, healing, or silence.

Today, we hold space for the mothers raising children while trying to care for themselves too. The mothers navigating perinatal mental health challenges in silence. Those grieving the loss of a child. Those grieving the loss of their mother. Those longing to become mothers. Those who have chosen not to become mothers. Those navigating strained relationships with their mothers or their children. Those carrying the weight of motherhood while feeling unseen. And those redefining what motherhood means for themselves.

There is no “right” way to feel today.

Wherever this day finds you, may you offer yourself gentleness, compassion, and permission to honor your experience without comparison.

You are allowed to protect your peace while holding space for your truth. 💐

Many people experience PMADs without ever knowing there is a name for what they’re going through.

PMADs stands for Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders, common mental health conditions that can begin during pregnancy and continue through the first year after birth.

They are more common than many realize.

An estimated 1 in 5 to 7 women and 1 in 10 men experience perinatal mental health challenges.

Too often, people think it is “just hormones,” exhaustion, or something they should push through quietly.

It is okay to name what you are feeling. ❤️
It is okay to need support. 🫶🏽
It is okay to ask for help early. ✨

If this topic resonates, I recently shared a new blog on PMADs and maternal mental health on my website.

Black Maternal Health Week is a reminder, but this is not just a one-week conversation.

After birth, most of the attention shifts to the baby. Feedings, cuddling, sleep, milestones, and routines.

But what often gets missed is the person who just went through pregnancy, birth, and a full identity shift.

Many Black mothers are quietly navigating anxiety, overwhelm, sadness, irritability, or feeling unlike themselves and it’s often minimized, missed, or not named at all.

These experiences are not personal failures. They may be signs of Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders (PMADs), and they are more common than many realize.

For Black mothers, this experience is often layered with higher stress, less access to care, and symptoms that are too often overlooked in systems that were not designed with us in mind.

I wrote more about what PMADs look like, how they show up, and why Black mothers are often under-supported in this area.

The full blog is now on my website.

If this resonates, take a moment when you have space to read it.

And if you’re in it right now, you don’t have to keep pushing through it alone. ✨🫶🏽

We Are Negotiating With Sleep… and Losing!

One more scroll, one more episode, one more thing to finish. And even when rest is possible, it doesn’t always feel easy to take.

Reflection is powerful, so I decided to write about it! check out my latest blog on Helping Humanity Heal for a few thoughts on rest, reflection, and slowing down when we can.

Reminder: Rest is productive 🫶🏽✨

Boundaries aren’t walls meant to shut people out. They are doors you choose to open when it feels safe, and close when it feels necessary. During pregnancy, your body, energy, and emotions are changing in ways that deserve attention and care.

This season, giving yourself permission to rest, say no, or step away isn’t selfish — it’s protection. It’s choosing what nourishes you and your growing baby, and honoring your limits with kindness.

Boundaries are gentle invitations to show up in ways that feel good, not in ways that deplete you. They are your way of saying yes to yourself, your body, and your peace. 🫶🏽

A Black woman gave birth in her car after being turned away and told she “wasn’t far enough along.”
And while the headline is shocking, the pattern isn’t unfamiliar.

Black birthing people are so often unheard, doubted, and dismissed in real time… even when their bodies are telling the full story. This isn’t about one hospital or one decision. It’s about a system that has historically ignored our pain and questioned our knowing.

Experiences like this don’t end the moment the baby arrives.
They can live on as fear, hypervigilance, anxiety, or trauma that makes medical spaces feel unsafe long after the birth is over. Birth trauma isn’t always about emergencies. Sometimes the wound begins with not being believed.

Doula support helps. Community helps. Trauma-informed, culturally competent providers help.
But the system still has to change.

If this story sits heavy on your chest, you’re not alone.
Black women deserve safety, respect, and care that listens the first time.

This is your reminder to start your week softly.

These affirmations are for the mornings that feel heavy or hurried… the ones where grace feels far away.

Save this to repeat throughout your week.

Some seasons aren’t meant for pushing through; they’re meant for softening. If you’ve been feeling slower, tired, or emotionally drained, it doesn’t always mean you’re “off track.” Sometimes, your body is simply asking for what the season already knows: to pause, breathe, and restore.

In a world that constantly praises doing, choosing rest can feel uncomfortable, even wrong. But honoring your limits is one of the most powerful ways to care for your mental health, especially when the light feels low.

This week, try trading the pressure to “get it all done” for gentler rhythms:
☁️ Ten minutes of stillness before you start your day
☁️ Turning off the noise when your mind feels overstimulated
☁️ Letting something wait until tomorrow

Your worth isn’t measured by what you produce, however it’s reflected in how you care for yourself while you’re becoming.

How does your body tell you it’s time to rest?

Some seasons call for softness.

For many, this time of year brings the weight of Seasonal Affective shifts; fatigue, low energy, sadness, or irritability can quietly settle in. It’s easy to feel like something is “wrong” with you, but the truth is, your body and mind are responding to a natural rhythm. Giving yourself space to notice and honor these feelings is an act of strength.

At the same time, we can’t ignore the heaviness in the world. Communities are facing real challenges, injustices, and losses that impact us collectively. It’s normal to feel overwhelmed, frustrated, or even powerless in the face of these events. Recognizing this reality doesn’t make you weak; it makes you human.

In the midst of both personal and collective heaviness, small, intentional acts of care matter. Whether it’s pausing to breathe, leaning on a trusted friend, taking a brief walk, or simply sitting with your feelings, these moments of grounding remind you that you are not alone, and that tenderness toward yourself is a radical act.

💡How are you showing yourself care this season, in your own life and in the world around you?
