HOW TO KNOW WETHER IT'S GOD'S SPIRIT LEADING YOU OR YOUR OWN SPIRIT
Which spirit am I listening TO, the Holy Spirit, my own spirit, or my flesh?
Our anchor scripture is Proverbs 20:27,
"The spirit of man is the candle of the Lord, searching all the inward parts of the belly."
Many people often ask, "How can I tell whether it is the Holy Spirit leading me or just my own thoughts and desires?"
This is a very important question because when we follow our flesh instead of God's Spirit, we often experience setbacks, failures, disappointments, frustration, and confusion. But when we are led by the Spirit of God, we walk in His will, His peace, and His purpose for our lives.
The flesh produces anger, strife, unforgiveness, jealousy, and disobedience. Therefore, we must learn to distinguish between the voice of the flesh and the voice of the Holy Spirit.
The Bible says in 1 John 3:9:
"Whosoever is born of God does not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him."
This means that when we walk under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, we do not make a lifestyle of sin because we carry the nature of God within us.
Physically, we are born from our earthly parents and inherit some of their characteristics. Spiritually, when we are born again, we become children of God and partake of His divine nature.
As believers, we carry the nature of Christ. Therefore, the Spirit of God will never lead us to lie, steal, insult others, hate our neighbors, cheat, or do evil. The Holy Spirit always leads us into righteousness, love, truth, forgiveness, and obedience to God.
The Bible further tells us in 2 Peter 1:4:
"That by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature."
What a wonderful promise! Through Christ, we have become partakers of God's divine nature. Therefore, we must live according to that nature every day.
This morning, I encourage you to carefully examine your heart as you go about your daily activities. Learn to distinguish between the leading of the Holy Spirit and the desires of the flesh. The flesh will often lead you in a direction that opposes God, but the Holy Spirit will always guide you into God's perfect will.
As you go out today, there may be situations that provoke anger, frustration, or offense. Do not listen to the flesh. Allow the Holy Spirit to guide your words, actions, and decisions.
May God grant you wisdom, self-control, and discernment. May He fight your battles, direct your steps, and keep you under His divine protection.
May the Lord bless you, preserve you, and cause His favor to shine upon you today.
In Jesus' mighty name, Amen.
