At today’s building court hearing, a city of Chicago attorney announced that plans for repairs to the Portage Theater marquee are still being worked on and that permit applications for those repairs have not yet been submitted. However, the attorney said that the owner of the residential portion of the theater has submitted permit applications for the required repairs to that area of the building.
The next court date is set for Dec. 17.
The case has been in court for two years and originated with previous ownership for the theater.

“We have the largest attendance area in the city, (and) we are the truest community high school in the Chicago,” while still being “incredibly diverse,” Taft High School Principal Dr. Ryan Glowacz said.
Glowacz added that he’s ‘committed’ to keeping Taft a strong local high school and that he visits each feeder school once a year to help promote Taft and encourage students to attend their neighborhood high school.
In 2025, 86 percent of Taft’s graduates attended college.
