Today marks the 75th Anniversary when Chicago broadcaster Paul Harvey launched his national radio program, “Paul Harvey News and Comment”, originating from WENR-AM and carried by the ABC radio network on January 1, 1951. The broadcast marked a major turning point in Harvey’s career, introducing his distinctive storytelling style and concise commentary to audiences across the United States. Beyond his on-air success, Harvey remained deeply committed to preserving the history and craft of broadcasting. Together with his wife, Angel Harvey, he was a devoted supporter of the Museum of Broadcast Communications in Chicago, helping champion its mission to document, celebrate, and educate the public about the cultural impact of radio and television.

Recently in June of 2025, the estate of legendary radio host Paul Harvey sued Paramount Global in New York federal court Monday for allegedly using a clip of the legendary broadcaster in the Paramount+ show “Landman” without permission. The suit states that Paramount misused a 90-second clip from a Harvey monologue on rising gas prices in a segment of a “Landman” episode. Not only was Paramount unauthorized to the air the audio, Harvey’s estate alleges producers edited the monologue segment in a way that twisted the meaning of what Harvey was saying about the oil industry. The audio was edited by Paramount+ producers in a way to omit Harvey’s endorsement of alternative fuels, according to the lawsuit.

Well deserved, we love Crystal Gayle!

📣 OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT —
Fans Hall of Country Music Legends

———

The Fans Hall of Country Music Legends is proud to officially announce that Crystal Gayle will be joining our Fans Hall ballot — a recognition long overdue for one of the most distinctive, influential, and enduring voices in country music history.

Crystal Gayle’s career represents a rare balance of tradition and crossover success, achieved without ever abandoning her country roots. Emerging in the 1970s, she helped redefine what a female country artist could be — sophisticated yet grounded, contemporary yet unmistakably country. At a time when the genre was expanding its reach, Gayle stood at the forefront, opening doors while maintaining artistic integrity.

Over the course of her career, Crystal Gayle earned more than 20 No. 1 singles on the Billboard Charts, multiple platinum and gold albums, and became one of the most commercially successful female artists of her era. Her signature hits — led by the timeless “Don’t It Make My Brown Eyes Blue” — showcased a smooth, expressive vocal style that set her apart from everyone else on the radio. Her success wasn’t built on trends or gimmicks, but on consistency, elegance, and undeniable talent.

Beyond the charts, Crystal Gayle’s impact is woven deeply into country music’s broader legacy. She helped broaden the genre’s audience during a pivotal era while preserving its emotional honesty and melodic core. Her influence can still be heard today in artists who blend traditional country storytelling with polished, crossover appeal — a path Gayle helped pave decades earlier.

For these reasons, Crystal Gayle’s credentials for recognition among country music’s highest honors are undeniable. Her career reflects excellence, longevity, and cultural impact — the very standards the Fans Hall of Country Music Legends exists to uphold.

Along with the addition of Crystal Gayle, the Fans Hall of Country Music Legends proudly welcomes back a distinguished group of returning nominees whose careers reflect the depth, diversity, and enduring foundation of country music history. These artists include Johnny Paycheck, Lynn Anderson, Red Sovine, Stonewall Jackson, The Wilburn Brothers, Wanda Jackson, Norma Jean, Johnnie and Jack, The Maddox Brothers and Rose, Wilma Lee and Stoney Cooper, and Charlie Poole — each representing a vital chapter in the story of country music.

The ballot will officially go live tomorrow and will close on January 16th at 12:00 AM EST. A total of eight inductees will be selected through this year’s voting cycle, continuing our commitment to honoring the many country music legends whose contributions have waited far too long for proper recognition. Fans will once again play the central role in determining who receives that honor.

Adding Crystal Gayle to this ballot is more than an announcement — it is an acknowledgment of a legacy built on grace, substance, and lasting influence. Her voice helped define an era, her music continues to resonate across generations, and country music is richer because of her presence.

😢

I enjoyed every minute I was around Rob Reiner. He was one of a kind. I got to work with him on the movie North and he also helped us with our ending of my video, “Does He Love You.” I sure will miss him. What a gift he was to this world. Rest in peace, my friend.

It was such a joy for Randy and Mary to be present to honor Anne Murray at the Grand Ole Opry in October!
