Animus Classics Journal

Animus Classics Journal Welcome! Animus is the undergraduate Classical journal at the University of Chicago.

Launched in 2020 by a group of dedicated undergraduate students from the University of Chicago, Animus works to curate research and reception work from undergraduates across the country and world. We aim to create an accessible space for dialogue between traditional and reception-based approaches to scholarship on ancient cultures and the Classical world. In this quest, we hope to provide fellow u

ndergraduate Classicists with the opportunity to have their works reviewed by peers in their field, both to their benefit and to the wider improvement of Classical scholarship. Animus is both a published journal (first edition published in Spring 2021) and an online blog, taking submissions from undergraduates centering on Classical themes, events, and works. More information on submission guidelines, deadlines, and timelines is available on our website.

We're excited to announce that the newest issue of our journal is officially here and available online! Thanks to the hard work of all of our team--peer reviewers, copy editors, contributors, and Staff members--we were able to put this fabulous journal together.

Our Winter 2024 issue features works including analyses of Roman Republican masculinity, the myth of Ganymede, death and marriage, and ancient Cypriot figurines, alongside a set of innovative translation and creative works, including an embroidered metamorphosis, a rousing speech to the maenads, and a haunting journey with Charon.

We're proud to be able to present this journal, and we hope that you enjoy it as much as we do.

We thank them, and all of our other staff members, for their constant dedication to Animus, and we congratulate them on their impending graduations!
