"We can and must hang on to God's love in spite of our circumstances. Behind the dark clouds of distress, God smiles on us and lovingly assures us of his good purpose for us. Nothing in all of creation - whether good or bad - can separate us from God's unconditional love." - Application note from Romans 8:35-39 of the Africa Study Bible

Seasons of waiting are hard. Living in this technologically advanced world gives us the expectation of instant results in all things. As human beings, we know that seasons of waiting are hard. They are often scary, uncertain, or confusing. However, waiting is inevitable.

In this blog👉 https://oasisinternationalpublishing.com/project/the-waiting/ , inspired by the Africa Study Bible , we learn that there is a purpose in waiting. God works when we are waiting.
Please take a moment to read and learn about being patient as a Christian. Read Scripture to remind yourself of the promises God has made to us.

This Christmas Eve, we reflect on the birth of Jesus in a manger. A true King born in a stable and laid in a feed trough for animals. God was not impressed with worldly power. He revealed his Son’s birth first to people of low power.

How do poor people in your town or region celebrate Christmas? How could your family contribute toward their celebration this year by volunteering, giving funds, or sharing food? As Jesus’ followers, we need to be among the poor and serve them. We will find God’s presence among the humble and the broken, among those who depend on God fully (Isaiah 57:15).

Mary was poor and humble, but God chose her for a privileged task. Her heart overflowed with praise and thanksgiving. Mary’s hymn is full of Old Testament words and phrases that she had memorized and meditated on. She recognized God’s grace to her as part of his character throughout her people’s history. God brought down unrighteous and powerful leaders and restored those whom society had forgotten.
Praise is an important part of the Christian life. Praise should be the natural reaction when we have experienced a special blessing from God. With less than 5 days to Christmas, what has God done for your family, your people, or your nation? How has he blessed you? Sit down with a paper and pen. Write a psalm of praise to God for his marvellous plan.

With less than 10 days to the end of our "Christmas Through African Eyes Devotional" what new insights to the Christmas Story have you gained?
Today, we learn about childlessness. John the Baptist's parents had no children because Elizabeth was unable to conceive, and they were both very old. But God had Zechariah's prayer and gave them a son. This son would prepare the people for the coming of the Lord.

In Africa, childlessness is considered a serious problem. Families often expect to hear the “good news” soon after a couple’s wedding. Childless women in some contexts are blamed for breaking taboos or are accused as witches and mistreated.

God views childlessness differently. Elizabeth, Hannah, Sarah, Rebekah, and Rachel served the Lord, as did their husbands. But they still experienced infertility. We should avoid judgemental attitudes such as, “It is because of their sin that they are without children.” We don’t always understand our Lord’s decisions.

"Jesus saw many aspects and attitudes in the lives of his disciples that needed to be transformed. Our lives are being conformed to the likeness of God's Son. Paul points this out clearly in his letter to the Christians in Corinth when he writes, 'And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.' (2 Corinthians 3:18). Our natural tendencies need to be changed into Christlikeness."- From 'The Discipler's Toolkit' by George Mutuku and Mark Olander

"Dear Mum and Dad, I need you more than I like to let you know that I do. There is so much that I cannot conquer on my own, as independent as I may seem. I need you, mum and dad, even if I don’t say it. Please, be present. Don’t let me become a part of another statistic."
