Faces of International Pop-Down 2025.

The sweetest people came together and participated in this year’s International Pop-Down. This year is the 4th edition and we were thrilled to see its successful turnout, the multitude of people passing through, admiring and interacting with the vendors and performers.

International Pop Down is an annual event that celebrates Chicago Global Music, in the vibrant Southport Corridor.

This year, under the tracks at International Pop-Down, we transformed concrete into canvas, with global music performances and local vendors.

“The Fabric of Her” is a site-specific art installation by Ana Everling, where white-sheet walls stretch between train pillars, inviting you to step inside and slow down. Because even in a city that never stops moving, we all need something soft to lean against.

Experience South Asian and Levantine dance!

Monica Kapoor will perform two evocative dance pieces: Tarana, a classical Indian work of rhythmic precision and expressive footwork, and Ya Ghazeli, a contemporary Syrian piece that draws from Levantine folklore and storytelling through movement.

We’re excited to share the artists of International Pop-Down 2025 - a celebration of sound, art, and community from around the world and right here in Chicago.

🟠Ana Everling – The Fabric of Her
A suspended installation of white sheets sewn with cyanotype self-portraits, dried plants, and everyday objects. A soft interruption in the urban landscape—inviting you to slow down, look closer, and listen.

🟠 Ami Saraiya – vocals + accordion
Performing solo, Ami channels a dramatic world of art-pop and dark cabaret. Her voice sways between shadows and swing, laced with theatrical flair and quiet intensity.

🟠 Müsila and Shruthi – traditional Carnatic music
Rooted in the classical music of South India, and American Blues. While their music irreverently flirts beyond its traditional roots, it sometimes flexes those very constraints, delivering a performance with both devotion and experimentation.

Meet our artists!

Müsila and Shruthi are a Chicago-based South Asian duo exploring the tension and tenderness between tradition and experimentation. Their music is rooted in Carnatic form but shaped by the raw edge of American blues — sometimes stretching the boundaries, sometimes playing right up against them. It’s devotional, irreverent, and entirely their own.

This week’s Story7 recommendations of concerts, community events, films and art!

It’s easy to get caught in the cycle - work, home, repeat. But stepping into a cultural event, even just for a night, shakes things up in the best way. It’s a reset, a chance to see, hear, and feel something new. Inspiration doesn’t come from scrolling—it comes from experiencing.

Stay tuned for our top picks!
