Norfolk Southern SD50 No. 5406 leads westbound loaded steel slab train 67Z at Woodbourne, Pennsylvania on the night of February 16, 2013. Built in 1983 as Conrail No. 6712, the locomotive was still wearing a vibrant coat of "Conrail Quality" livery as it led this train past a huge photo line on the far eastern end of the company's Morrisville Line. By October of that same year, the 5406 had been rebuilt and released from Juniata Locomotive Shops as NS SD40E No. 6354.

Amtrak P42C No. 9702 is seen awaiting departure from Albany–Rensselaer Station at Rennselaer, New York on June 16, 2026. Originally built as Amtrak GE P42DC No. 177, this unit was rebuilt to an NPCU (Non-Powered Control Unit) and placed into service in May of 2025. At the time of this posting, Amtrak has converted eight P42DCs into P42Cs, numbered 9700 through 9707.

Metra F40PH-3 No. 180 brings outbound BNSF Line train No. 1303 into Lisle, Illinois. There's nothing like the profile of an EMD F40!

A CTA Orange Line train arrives and departs at Quincy Station in Chicago’s Loop on a warm summer night. The train consists entirely of classic 2600-series cars. These were built by the Budd Company of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania between 1981 and 1987.

CSX train K467 passes through Woodbourne, Pennsylvania on the rainy evening of June 4, 2012 with a pair of Union Pacific engines for power. Leading is UP SD9043MAC No. 8038, a large diesel locomotive that was once common on the UP but was, even at the time of this recording, a rare treat to see leading on east coast CSX rails.

A southbound bus operating CTA Route No. 82 departs from Kimball & Byron amidst thick wildfire smoke on the evening of July 16, 2026. CTA No. 4117 is a 2008 New Flyer Industries DE60LF.

An HO-scale Amtrak “Empire Builder” train travels through beautiful scenery on the massive “The Great Train Story” layout at Chicago’s Griffin Museum of Science & Industry. This is a 3,500-square-foot model railroad designed to represent the full route of the Empire Builder from Chicago, IL to Seattle, WA.
