A little history lesson.....

Anti-apartheid icon Miriam Makeba (1932–2008) passed away 27 years ago. In this powerful clip, she speaks on how history is often written by the conqueror—and why true liberation requires African voices telling their own stories.
Known globally as Mama Africa, Makeba was far more than a legendary singer. She was a revolutionary. Born in Johannesburg, she rose to international fame for her commanding voice and electrifying stage presence, but her art was never just entertainment—it was resistance.
Makeba used her music to expose the brutality of apartheid. Even as the South African regime imprisoned, tortured, and killed Black people, she spoke boldly on world stages. In 1963 she addressed the United Nations, condemning apartheid with unwavering courage. The regime retaliated by revoking her passport, leaving her stateless for over 30 years. Yet her exile only amplified her message.
Her legacy reminds us that storytelling is power—and Africans must continue to shape the narrative of who we are and how we got here.
