Rebecca Wilson is a queer poet, storyteller, and cultivator of creativ

ity. After years of pouring out messages about a man turning water into wine, in 2022 Rebecca founded 10CAMELS, where she travels the country turning words into water for individuals and communities thirsty for hope and healing. Humble and witty, she is uniquely gifted at bringing people together, tending gently to harsh realities, and stirring transformation.

Today, I celebrate the 2 years + 1 day anniversary of Unraveling: Coming Out and Back Together. 2 years + 1 day ago, my first book of poetry was published. Those 21 poems, capturing a season of surrender, were released into the world.

2 years + 1 day ago, I very publicly let go of a whole lot that was never mine to carry, including the shame of a linen clergy robe that had me so entangled I could barely breathe, let alone really write.

2 years + 1 day ago, I picked up a pen with endless ever-evolving colored ink. Unbound to a religious tradition that said I could be anything except for who god made me.

Last week I wandered around Chicago. En route to the Field Museum, I stopped in Millennium Park. The Bean (officially titled Cloud Gate) with its mirror like surface reflects the city’s skyline, the people gathered there and those just passing by.

Standing there I realized, I am a reflection of my grandmothers, not a replica. The same is true for my faith. It’s shaped by the beliefs and traditions of others, and also uniquely my own. It changes. Shifts and bends with time. Softens with experience.

My heart breaks for a world being destroyed by a Church whose faith is more a replica of empire and less a reflection of love. And my heart remembers the grandmothers who teach me how, what, where, when, and why to sing.

The poems of Not My Grandmother’s Hymnal honor the faith I inherited and reflect the ways I continue re-imagining what it means to be human and divine.

Who do you resemble?
What faith and beliefs do you reflect?
What questions and curiosities are you holding?

Tenderly, Rebecca
