nytimes President Trump reaped a stunning windfall in his first year back in the White House, including about $1.4 billion from his family’s cryptocurrency businesses, a new filing shows. Trump pulled in at least $2.2 billion, a figure that includes other parts of his vast holdings, such as his real estate assets. That compares to a minimum of $622 million his enterprises pulled in for all of 2024, before he returned to the presidency. The president’s finances, which had been something of a mystery, highlight a conflict in his crypto business: Trump is a major crypto industry operator and its top policymaker. It is hardly the only issue to arise from having a businessman serve as president.

Lower Manhattan was a roaring sea of orange and blue Thursday morning as New York Knicks fans jammed the route of a long-awaited ticker-tape parade.

The Knicks — some holding signs saying “Thank You Fans!” — rolled up in floats and buses holding several players apiece, to deafening cheers. Jalen Brunson, the team’s captain, walked with the NBA championship trophy.

Fans arrived before dawn to cheer Brunson, OG Anunoby, Karl-Anthony Towns and their teammates as they rode along. Some people paid hundreds of dollars to have line-waiters save spots for them. Outside the viewing area, people clambered onto trucks, scaffolding, subway station entrances and any other elevated stationary object to try to get a glimpse of the action.

A year into President Trump’s term, ICE had bought 11 empty warehouses at a cost of $1 billion to massively expand its capacity to detain and deport people deemed to be in the U.S. illegally. But in a major reversal, the agency is planning to offload seven warehouses purchased for more than $700 million by either giving them to other federal agencies or selling them outright, according to documents obtained by The New York Times.

The decision to sharply scale back the warehouse plan is a rejection of a signature initiative under the previous homeland security secretary, Kristi Noem, who pushed the boundaries of what the government can do to aggressively round up potential deportees. The new secretary, Markwayne Mullin, who had privately expressed skepticism about the plan, has said publicly that he wants the agency to be quieter about how it carries out immigration enforcement.

The Obama Presidential Center was finally unveiled on the South Side of Chicago on Thursday after more than a decade of planning, a messy court battle with preservationists and years of construction.

The opening was a star-studded party, concert and celebration, the rare event that drew four former presidents standing together onstage — George W. Bush, Bill Clinton and Joe Biden, along with Barack Obama himself. There were also performances by The Roots,Christina Aguilera and Bruce Springsteen.

Obama recalled arriving in Chicago from New York more than 40 years ago: “It was here, in this city, the city of broad shoulders, that I found what I was looking for,” he said.

That includes $250 million from FEMA, bookmarked for the 11 states hosting World Cup matches, and another $115 million from DHS for counter-drone technology at tournament venues.⁣

NASA on Tuesday revealed the four astronauts who will join the next Artemis mission — a key, two-week flight that will aim to test out various technologies considered vital to putting astronauts back on the surface of the moon for the first time in more than 50 years.

The crew, set to launch as soon as late 2027, includes three NASA astronauts — first-time space flier Andre Douglas, record-setting astronaut Frank Rubio, and veteran flier and test pilot Randy Bresnik — as well as Italian astronaut Luca Parmitano with the European Space Agency.

Artemis III is designed to serve as a precursor mission to a moon landing, testing out how the NASA-built Orion spacecraft will dock with a lunar lander. The primary goal of the flight, the space agency says, is to "reduce risk" heading into an actual lunar touchdown, which NASA hopes will take place as soon as 2028.
