And it just keeps snowing in Chicago...a winter weather advisory is in effect.
Members of the Chicago Teachers Union, staff, other workers, their representatives and those that support them including parents and students gather at the Chicago Temple Building in Downtown Chicago for the Stand Up For Education Justice Rally.
Speakers at the rally, demanding a fair contract from Mayor Lightfoot in Chicago Public School negotiations, received standing ovations.
They are prepared to go on strike October 17th if the mayor fails sign a contract that definitively provides a living wage for those within the union and other workers. Those at the rally say that employees should be able to afford to live in the neighborhoods where they work.
Another obstacle in solidifying a fair contract, says special needs teacher Jonathan Williams, "the janitorial staff lacks the resources needed to provide clean schools while ARAMARK receives multi million dollar food service contracts".
Mayor Lightfoot tweeted early in the day, "We hear you, and I respect what you stand for."
The rally was followed by a march in downtown Chicago where hundreds of those that attended the rally and others that couldn't fit into the packed Temple Building continued their chants for a fair contract.

The Chicago Marathon is this weekend but a seven time marathon runner won't be participating this year. Instead, Carolyn Nugent celebrates with her doctor and nurses from Northwestern Medicine's fertility preservation program the second birthday of her son Joey.
After finishing a 2015 marathon, Carolyn Nugent was diagnosed with breast cancer. Her life's goal was to be a mother. Fearful of a decrease in fertility caused by curative treatments such as chemo and radiation Nugent pleaded with Northwestern staff to coordinate and increase her possibilities of bearing a future child.
A short window existed in which her menstrual cycle, enhanced by a fertility increasing medicine, produced five eggs. These eggs were then extracted, fertilized, and the embryos frozen with the intent of being transferred back to Nugent after her battle with cancer for her to carry.
This weekend, her son Joey now turns two years old. Nugent says she'd like to begin training for another marathon but will have to start out slow with a 5k Turkey Trot this year in Gary, Indiana.

UPDATE: The school security guard has been suspended according to a release issued by CPS.
A family is now suing the City of Chicago, its Board of Education, and the Principal among other school staff of Fiske Elementary School in Chicago's Englewood neighborhood after they say school officials turned a blind eye to the bullying of a nine year old boy, forced him outside the school were he was locked outside in winter conditions without a coat, then called the parents telling them he had walked out on his own.
The school had also called police and told them the same, reporting the boy as missing.
Now that video apparently shows that the boy was telling his mother the truth when he told her he was escorted out of the school and that he had tried to get back in but the doors were locked she is suing and asking for accountability.
The lawsuit calls the neighborhood a high-crime community. The boys mother, Yvonne Pinkston calls it neglect and says that "anything could have happened to my boy".
Officials with the Chicago Public School system declined to comment when asked about the allegations by a WBBM reporter.
The child has since transferred to a different school where his grandfather, Billy Pinkston says, he has even been awarded a "Student of the Month" award in the new environment.

In a report released March 2019, Attorney Jeff Anderson disclosed the names, pictures, and past work assignments of 227 priests accused of sexual abuse in Illinois. Today he says there is one more name to add to the "Anderson Report", bringing the total to 228.
Susan Thomas, the Public Relations and Communications Director for the Archdiocese of Chicago responded to phone calls by WBBM News Radio reporter Brandon Ison with an e-mail:
We do not comment on pending lawsuits.
Regarding Fr. Smyth - All I would say is that the allegations against Fr. Smyth are still being investigated by the Archdiocese of Chicago.
Thank you,
Susan
Minnesota Attorney Jeff Anderson is confident in the latest law suit filed Monday, against the Archdiocese of Chicago reaveling for the first time over 80 million dollars in cash settlements in prior litegation and mediation involving 160 sexual abuse survivors.
The suit brought against the Archdiocese on behalf of Clarence E. George Jr. alleges that a revered priest, Father John P. Smyth (now deceased), sexually abused him on multiple occasions between the years 2001 and 2003.
George Jr. also claims in the suit that he had alerted an agent of the Archdiocese of the abuse and that it was not formally addressed.
The suit seeks to hold accountable the Arch-Bishop of Chicago and the Archdiocese for allowing John P. Smyth to maintain his role as Superintendent of Maryville Academy in Des Plaines even after George Jr. had accused the man of sexual abuse.
George Jr., aided by Anderson, also claims that the Archdiocese was aware of reports of sexual abuse concerning Smyth, dating back to the mid 70's but that he was allowed to hold his position working with vulnerable youth.
