Tenants went around and posted signs about the building being shut down by the city of Chicago October 23rd. BUT they have a chance to fight 👊🏽it . The streets are heating up 🔥What will they do? Will they get put out on the 23rd? Will the city back door 🚪 the tenants? Stay tuned 🤐

Day 7/100: To our Fallen Squad

Tanya mourns the loss of the fallen brothers 👼, her sister, and her neighborhood 💜

Last week, a whirlwind of sh*t popped off! ICE raids 🚨 on the Five (75th & South Shore), two tenants of the building gunned down, the City of Chicago ordering the building to be shut down in the coming weeks 📝❌, and our government orchestrating a civil war right before our eyes⚠️.

Although grief, strife, and despair fill the Eastside air, Eastside tenants are more resilient than ever. Standing 10 toes down in the building, while supporting each other in these uncertain times.

Day 7/100 — GRIEF.
RIP Glizzy, J-Dog, & FatBaby.
The day after the tragic shooting of two brothers in the alley , left critically injured and fighting for a lifeline , they both ultimately died.
The day before, Glizzy was gunned down. A young brother with no family, he was adopted into the Eastside trenches ,adopted by the wolves, hunted with the pack, taken care of by a village, judgment free.
Now, the night before his 20th birthday, he joined his mother behind the pearly gates.These losses aren’t in vain. The Eastside takeover continues.

Day 6/100
Today, shots rang out in the alley behind 7748. Two brothers were hit ,one killed, the other fighting for his life. They were known, loved, and connected to the tenants here.

The Eastside mourns. Tears, candles, and heartbreak run heavy through the courtyard. But even in grief, the tenants of 7748 stand stronger in their takeover. Every day, every night, they push to secure this building, to fight for safer ground, for better living, for survival.

This is more than housing. This is life and death.

Eastside tenants have 100 Days and 100 Nights to get the building right. In 100 days, the Illinois anti-squatter law, aka the “he say, she say” law ,goes into effect: a legal weapon against the right to safe, clean, affordable housing. Eastside tenants, abandoned by a shady New York landlord wrapped up in lawsuits, have taken over their building. They’re standing on business in Zone 8. Follow the hustle-class tenants of the Eastside as they navigate addiction, violence, immigration enforcement, janky landlords, poverty, and political oppression.
