What does silence mean when there’s a toddler in the house?

Usually, absolutely nothing good.

You know the scene. The house suddenly goes quiet. No tiny footsteps. No demands for snacks. No mysterious banging from the other room.

For a few glorious seconds, you might think you’ve finally got peace.

Then your instincts kick in.

You stop. You listen. You wonder what they’re doing.

Because with toddlers, silence isn’t calm. It’s suspicious.

Maybe they’ve discovered the toilet paper. Maybe they’re “cooking” with your shampoo. Or maybe they’ve found the one thing in the house you specifically told them not to touch.

That’s the thing about parenting. You learn that chaos is reassuring. Noise means you know where they are.

Silence?

Silence means you’d better go check.
