Born in 1815 in St Andrews, Scotland, Allan Robertson was a club and feathery ball maker, who gave golf instructions and was known for his undefeated money matches long before tournaments existed. He is also credited with being the first golfer to break 80, with a 79, at St Andrew’s Old Course. Among those who apprenticed under him was none other than Old Tom Morris.
